CN Chooses Netezza

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Netezza Corporation (NYSE Arca: NZ), the global leader in data warehouse appliances, today announced that CN is migrating and consolidating numerous data marts from its legacy environment to the Netezza Performance Server (NPS®) data warehouse appliance to provide increased performance, user accessibility and scalability for strategic operational business intelligence (BI) applications.

CN, a leader in the North American rail industry, is leveraging Netezza's innovative appliance technology to run detailed analysis of traffic on its network of more than 20,000 route miles across Canada and the US. The first application CN has launched on Netezza runs detailed analyses on its railroad cars, capturing information on all events that take place with the equipment and identifying where traffic is located. CN can now run queries within minutes that would not complete before due to the imposed time limits on queries from the mainframe data warehouse.

Data load processes have also dramatically improved with CN's NPS implementation. "With our incumbent data warehouse, we had to closely monitor our load times with regard to user access," said Dirk de Wilde, data architect at CN. "Netezza has allowed our users access to the system virtually any time they want."
