Kumar Leaves CA

The tremors from CAs accounting scandal continue to reverberate, but users appear to have successfully avoided any after-shocks.

Sanjay Kumar, chief software architect and former CEO of Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) (NYSE: CA), today announced that he is leaving the company, which is under investigation for its past accounting practices.

Kumar’s departure follows a major boardroom reshuffle that saw him step down as CEO, and is the latest move to steady CA’s corporate ship (see CA CEO Resigns and CA Names Temp Chief).

In April, the software giant restated certain financials for fiscal years 2000 and 2001 after the company’s audit committee found that a total of $2.2 billion of revenue was booked prematurely by quarter.

Kumar’s decision to leave was prompted by a desire to help the company draw a line under a turbulent period in its history, according to a statement released this morning: “I understood that my stepping down as chairman and CEO represented a break with the past, but I have reluctantly concluded that as long as I hold any position, focus on past issues and my current role will continue.”
