Infortrend Ships Array

HANNOVER, Germany -- Infortrend, the RAID storage expert, today announced the first model in a new series of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)-to-SATA RAID subsystems. The EonStor® A16S-G2130 uses a SAS interface for the host computer connection and a SATA-II interface for the drive connection. Customers are choosing to replace Ultra320 SCSI with a SAS host connection interface for the high bandwidth that SAS technology provides. However, in many situations, SATA-II drives are still preferred over SAS drives due to the availability of high capacity SATA drives and the lower cost per megabyte.

“We designed this new product family after listening closely to our customer’s needs,” said Alex Young, technical and marketing director for Infortrend Europe Ltd. “Infortrend’s new A16S-G2130 provides greatly increased speed compared to existing SCSI-to-SATA RAID subsystems, and with the advent of 750GB or 1000GB SATA drives, IT managers can economically satisfy their storage demand.”

The new SAS-to-SATA array is well suited for many applications: near-line storage to backup primary data, cinema/audio/video stream playback, email server storage, company-shared data storage, high resolution CCTV recording, medical image recording, and more.
