Over the past few weeks, we have gotten to know Jim - a veteran IT manager who needs to deploy an application performance management (APM) solution. Jim also wanted to consider options that combine data collection techniques into more complete solutions. Applications that map topology and understand all aspects of the components of the system, even if they need agents to do so also needed to be considered. Jim also wanted to evaluate integrating some of his network management information data so packet loss and latency from the network could be layered on top of the application specific metrics. With the RFI out the door, next week we'll see what Jim decides once he received the responses.
