Wireless Network Head-to-Head: Cisco Vs. Meru: Page 10 of 15

Testing: Cisco Vs. Meru

We tested Cisco's 4402 Controller and LWAPP-based Cisco 1240 AP. Meru's infrastructure comprised a model MC3000 controller and an AP208 AP.

The most basic tests we ran against each infrastructure evaluated the performance of a single-celled 802.11b/g AP with eight 802.11g clients associated. This scenario simulated the real-world throughput users would experience in a pure 802.11g environment (though 802.11b was left enabled) with no interference from neighboring APs. Using Chariot, we defined two TCP traffic flows for each client, one for upstream traffic and one for downstream traffic, resulting in a total of 16 measurable traffic flows.
