Verizon Wireless' Neutrality 'Offer' is Neutered: Page 3 of 3

Fourth, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a ruling just over a
year ago essentially allowing consumers to unlock their phones. Why should
Verizon Wireless try to fight against consumer opinion? Better to embrace
it and look like a hero.

Fifth, just a few days ago the Federal-State Joint Board on Universal
Service issued their report to the FCC, which recommended, among other
things, to put a fixed cap on Universal Services funds allocated to wireless
carriers. This announcement helps it score points for the wireless
industry, as something worth supporting (and subsidizing).

Don't be flattered by Verizon Wireless' announcement -- it's not offering
anything that it isn't doing today or that's accessible to consumers.
