Roese says the opportunities include the reality that services are increasingly on the network, not the device. "Tablets like the iPad in and of themselves are not very interesting. We're still in the early days. Most of the business applications are not cloud-friendly; we haven't even begun to tap into business applications."

Details on Huawei's cloud strategy are scarce. It says it will work with its North American partners to deliver a solution that will enable customers to expand service offerings, reduce costs and bring telecommunications services to the cloud. The company is developing a scalable and automated platform that can facilitate common business or productivity applications online in an open, non-proprietary fashion that will deliver its partners' cloud services and grow as the technology evolves.
