How To Build A PC Into Your Car

Using a mini-ITX system, you can build a complete PC, right into the dashboard of your car. Talk about mobile computing!

RECIPEIn this Recipe, I'll show you how to build an in-car PC using mini-ITX technology. This automobile computer system features a compact footprint, road-worthy components, and some serious media capabilities.

For this Recipe, I'll feature both components that are built specially to handle the rigors of a road trip and those that can also work on the desktop. On the dashboard, here's how a typical build will look:

Pretty cool, right? Ready to get your clients in gear with a car PC? Then let's roll!

re: How To Build A PC Into Your Car
Building a car PC is still a much better option that using say the iPad or a Android tablet; depending on what you want to do. Example: if you are just looking to be able to play media than you can use one of the tablet solutions. Even if you just want to add GPS, you could still get away with just a tablet. But, if you wanted to take it a step further with options like, after market backup cams or use control boards to integrate into car functionality you would need a PC. How would you like to send a text to your car and have it start then send another to turn the heat or air on... You would need a PC for that. It all depends on what you want to accomplish and what type of experience you are looking for.

Yeah, this was written back in 2006, so alot has changed. What with bluetooth starting to get built into cars (at least more expensive ones), this story is dated.
