Aruba Target Ship Date For 802.11n AP Slips

When Aruba announced its 802.11n product just over a month ago, it shared with reporters and analysts a shipping date of the end of November. At least one competitor brought it to my attention two weeks ago that their product was not on the FCC's Web site, an indication that FCC approval had not yet been given. As of Saturday, that approval was not listed on the FCC's Web site. Without FCC approval, the product can't ship.

Aruba also shared with me that they hope to gain Wi-Fi Alliance 802.11n draft 2.0 certification in short order (Cisco and Meru are the only enterprise vendors to have attained Wi-Fi certification and are both shipping products), but submitting it to one of their testing facilities also hinges on FCC approval.

While the long-term affects of this delay are likely minimal to none, it is unclear why Aruba restrained from making an 802.11n-related announcement as long as it did without having the product in finished and final form.
