Automated 802.11 Spectrum Analysis/Remediation: Benefits And Implications
With recent press releases by Cisco and Aruba Networks regarding their emergent distributed spectrum analysis capabilities, many of us in the WLAN big leagues are sitting up and taking note. Sure, we've had tools like all of the Cognio-esque spectrum analyzer variants to schlep around when need be, and today's better wireless systems try their hardest to express their discomfort graphically when interference is afoot, but what is about to be unleashed is nothing short of huge. Huge on the order of an ultra-sophisticated Air Force electronic reconnaissance plane off of some potentially unfriendly coast, soaking up signals, doing automated cataloging, and feeding them to a highly skilled analyst who decides what to do about them.

The mobile device management space is relatively new, but is already showing signs of being a study in same-old, same-old. How much can you really do with Apple's API for iDevices, after all? Judging by the current players, you'd think that all MDM solutions require a stand-alone management server and yet another console to administer. Though many MDM vendors put different faces on the same basic functionality, Centrify promises a unique methodology, at a price you won't believe.

One of the great promises of the mobile device explosion is increased productivity. But productivity is in the eye of the beholder, and many mobile users still haven't caught on to the notion that you can sign documents digitally, with a legally binding signature, from a mobile device. Whether the goal is paperwork reduction or expedience, DocuSign combines the power of digital ink and a slick, cloud-enabled document-handling framework to put an end to the likes of scanning and faxing. And now, those of us with Android devices can use DocuSign, too.

Prepare The Mobile Ship For Ludicrous Speed!

Thinking back on the 1987 movie "Spaceballs," I picture a comical Dark Helmet standing on the bridge of his ship. In my mind, he holds a smartphone and contemplates the latest buzz on mobile network speeds, fresh from the International Telecommunications Union. As he ponders the 100-Mbps data speeds soon to be delivered by his preferred carrier, he utters the order, "Prepare for ludicrous speed," and the ship IMT-Advanced warps off to hyperspace at an impossibly crazy velocity. Speeds in the mobile data world are about to get quite exciting.
