Riverbed Delivers Customization Via Developer Tools

Riverbed Technology is giving IT managers more tools to customize their infrastructure by introducing new product capabilities and developer tools, including FlyScript, which enables integration and automation within the company's platform, third-party tools and proprietary software. FlyScript will be supported by Riverbed's online Splash community.

Riverbed's FlyScript is an extension of the scripting and customization capabilities of the company's Stingray Traffic Manager, which lets enterprises set traffic management policies for specific applications and create custom features. FlyScript also includes REST APIs for Riverbed's Cascade Shark and Cascade Profiler. Riverbed also introduced the Python SDK to support development of custom modules and applications.

SolarWinds Goes Free

SolarWinds has introduced free IT alert management software, SolarWinds Alert Central, which consolidates and distributes alerts across multiple systems. Alert Central provides all users with a central scheduling calendar and the ability to respond to alerts on their computer or mobile device without VPN access.

Other features of Alert Central include the ability to send alerts via email or text, weekly statistical and performance data reports for each user or team, and the ability manage on-call schedules for multiple teams. Alert Central can be deployed for a small team or for a large network operations center.

Sepaton Enhances Connectivity and Encryption

Sepaton's S2100-ES3 series 2925 backup appliance now features new processing nodes and enhanced multi-protocol network connectivity options, including 8Gb Fiber Channel and 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet. Running the company's version 7.0 software, the S2100 includes Exar 1845 compression cards.

The new appliance integrates with encryption key managers compliant with the OASIS Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP), and will work with the RSA DPM and Thales e-security keyAuthority 4.0 appliances. Performance-wise, the S2100 features HP DL380p Gen 8-based processing nodes; Intel Xeon E5-2690, 8-core dual CPU; and 128GB RAM DDR3 memory.

Dell SonicWall's New SuperMassive Firewall

Despite its name, the latest SonicWall next-gen firewall series from Dell is a space-saving one-rack appliance designed to bring carrier-grade network security to the enterprise. The SonicWall SuperMassive 9000 series includes the 9600, 9400 and 9200 models and features full IPS and application control performance at up to 12Gbps.

The SonicWall SuperMassive 9000 series can be used in a variety of network scenarios, either in a traditional gateway security deployment or as an additional layer of security for networks in a transparent Layer 2 bridge or wire-mode deployment. The SuperMassive comes with 4 SFP+ 10GbE interfaces, 16 1GbE interfaces and a dedicated management interface. It also employs Dell SonicWall's reassembly-free Deep Packet Inspection technology.

Veeam Enhances vCloud Director Backup and Recovery

Veeam Software has extended support for VMware vCloud Director; enterprises can now back up and restore virtual machines managed by vCloud Director. Veeam uses the vCloud Director API and its existing backup infrastructure to display the vCloud Director infrastructure in Veeam Backup & Replication. It can back up all VMs, vApp metadata and attributes and restore them directly to VCloud Director.

Veeam's enhanced support for vCloud Director can also be deployed by cloud service providers and managed service providers to streamline backup and recovery. These new features will be available in Veeam Backup and & Recovery v7 in Q3 2013.
