Walter Alan Zintz Biography Page

I'm Editor-at-Large of UnixWorld Online. As a freelance computer journalist, I've had articles published in more than a dozen magazines, from Byte to Canadian Datasystems.

In between writing for the computer press, I juggle several projects of my own. I lead a group of psychology professionals in setting up an Internet-based collaboration to find a unifying theory for the fragmented psychological sciences. Betimes I work on writing a couple of books. My nonfiction volume is a how-to for technical people on promoting their ideas in competition with the suits, without becoming suit clones. I'm simultaneously plotting out a science-fiction odyssey.

As befits a writer, I have a long and varied list of previous occupations. In the 1980s, I founded and presided over an international Unix users' group. Toward the end of the decade I was half of an ad agency that specialized in marketing computing products. Earlier I was, by turns, a radio producer, the director of an experimental elementary school, a middle-school teacher in San Francisco's Chinatown, a designer and builder of loudspeakers for rock bands, and a partner in a drum studio. In my spare time I've played a little cricket.
