Installing and Using Apache

The ASF-recommended stable version, 1.3.12, is available as a binary. Version 2 alphas are available as source that must be built. Installation is relatively straightforward. In the Windows environment, 1.3.12 can be installed either as a service (Windows NT/2000 environments only) or as a console application (Windows 95/98/NT/2000).


Figure 1 shows both the options in a Windows NT environment.

Figure 2 shows the Apache server up and running standalone. Figures 3 and 4 show Apache installed and started as a Windows service.
