Gordano Updates Messaging Suite With SNMP Links

Gordano’s latest messaging product can now tie into systems management implementations.

Gordano Messaging Suite (GMS) version 11.02's SNMP Master Agent makes it easier for solution providers to tie e-mail into systems management software such as Hewlett-Packard's OpenView or IBM's Tivoli that may be running in the hub of a hub-and-spoke organization. SNMP, or Simple Network Management Protocol, underlies most popular management systems.

"From my standpoint, the SNMP management is the big deal. It means mail will play a lot nicer with things like OpenView, where you want to get at gateway management and traffic information," said Matt Lavallee, Web services manager at PMP Technology, a Downers Grove, Ill.-based VAR specializing in real estate solutions. “Before now, you could not realistically do that linkage and had to rely on basic TCP/IP traffic [statistics]," he said.

Gordano’s new agent allows mail stats to be viewed from any SNMP client. Also new to GMS is an API that will enable VARs to more easily integrate the suite with outside systems and applications, including VoIP switches, document management systems or archiving solutions, according to North Somerset, U.K.-based Gordano.

Another new feature is GMS WebMail’s AJAX-like functionality for loading data on the client-side cache, which Gordano said speeds the display of messages after initial loading. Gordano mail runs on Windows, Linux and Unix platforms and is billed as an affordable, cross-platform alternative to Microsoft Exchange Server.
