Built-in WAN acceleration will enable companies to copy data to off-site locations up to 50 times faster than a regular file copy, the company says.Coyote Point Brings Next-Gen Networking to Life with Innovative Appliances
April 14, 2012 09:00 AM
When it comes to WAN optimization and application acceleration solutions, big name vendors such as F5 Networks, Riverbed BlueCoat and Barracuda normally get all the press. After all, squeezing maximum performance out of a WAN and its associated applications has quickly become job No. 1 for most network managers. However, smaller vendors are striving to one-up the big names with new connectivity methodologies and technical advancements. Case in point is CoyotePoint.Riverbed's Granite Virtualizes Branch Office Storage
February 10, 2012 09:00 AM
When Riverbed and others brought WAN acceleration to the market around the turn of the century, many of us hoped that with WAN acceleration we could pull the servers, and the headaches they cause, from branch offices. Unfortunately, many organizations found reasons to keep servers in the branches. Riverbed's new Granite appliance allows organizations to keep servers in their branch offices while eliminating many of the headaches through what Riverbed's calling Edge Virtual Server Infrastructure.Cisco's WAAS Appeal: 5x Bandwidth, 3x User Increases
October 05, 2011 10:15 AM
Cisco is refreshing its Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) appliances for WAN applications. The company says the number of Internet-based applications is expected to reach 1 million this decade, and it wants to help customers scale the delivery of rising volumes of applications and video traffic across networks to any user and device. The new solutions will "substantially" improve application performance and user experience by providing up to five times the bandwidth and supporting up to three times the users, compared to the previous generation, as well as reduce the hardware required by 66%.Internap Takes Accelerated IP Internet Traffic Accelerator Service Global
April 08, 2011 01:00 PM
A year ago, Internap Network Services announced its Accelerated IP Internet traffic accelerator service (XIP), which the company claimed could improve performance of enterprise Web applications by up to 400 percent by eliminating some of the belt-and-suspenders reliability protection provided by TCP. The company is now announcing that the service is available worldwide, after having been tested in several cities during the past year.WAN Optimization and the VDI Challenge
February 14, 2011 11:56 AM
I was sitting in on a peer-to-peer exchange about virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) hosted by Wikibon and listening to how great VDI is for organizations. I asked about multisite VDI and what recommendations people had for implementing VDI between sites. The speaker paused and said that she hadn't see any multisite implementations. No surprise there. VDI itself is still in its infancy, but it hit me once again that if organizations are going to see VDI's benefits at the remote office, they've got to pay close attention to their WAN acceleration layer.Keynote, ExtraHop Team To Offer More Complete App Performance Picture

Marrying their application performance management (APM) solutions, Keynote Systems and ExtraHop Networks can now offer a more complete view of how an application is performing as it traverses from the Web front end to the back end.Data Centers: The Next Frontier For WAN Optimizers?
January 06, 2011 11:04 AM
Signs of the increasingly pivotal role that WAN optimization is playing in the enterprise can be seen in the emergence of hybrid cloud architectures within corporate networks. As Mike so poignantly pointed out in his blog, the simple ability to run a VM does not make an application ready for the cloud. If developers are to leverage on-demand services, such as Amazon's EC2, they need to rethink how they architect their software to leverage a hybrid cloud environment.WAN Issues Drive Application Deployment And Architecture
