Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

With four years of experience and solid growth in the SMB tape-replacement market, Tandberg Data is extending its RDX-based product--an entry-level tape alternative that combines the advantages of disk and tape--with the first removable disk library, providing up to 8TBytes of online storage in a multicartridge 2U form factor. Available in volume at a starting price of $3,999, the RDX QuikStation consists of eight RDX docks that can be configured as either eight individually addressable iSCSI disk targets or as an emulated tape autoloader or library, as well as a Linux-based server.

Cisco Integrates Tandberg Telepresence

June 18, 2010 12:30 PM
Demonstrating that its $3.4 billion acquisition of Tandberg earlier this year is progressing smoothly and on schedule, Cisco has announced updates to three lines of products in the telepresence, or high-definition video teleconferencing, marketplace. The Tandberg acquisition was announced last October 1 and closed on April 19. The intent of telepresence is to use high-quality, high-definition video and audio to provide an experience that is as good as being in person.

VoiceCon: Is Desktop Video In Your Future? Vendors Say Yes

March 24, 2010 08:00 AM
Tandberg rolled out a new desktop video system, the EX90, that might very well indicate the shape of your desktop monitor in the years to come—a streaming video system and desktop monitor rolled into one, saving space on your desk. Tandberg isn't the only game in town; desktop HD streaming video from Polycom and Cisco were also demonstrated at the show. The demos look good, but the price is far too high for general deployment. Expect to see these hardware systems only in conference rooms or executive suites until the price drops.

Vendor Metamorphosis, Or Resurrection?

March 04, 2010 09:30 AM
Back in July, I was skeptical that longtime tape automation vendors Tandberg Data and Overland Storage would successfully transit the tempest that is the SMB storage market in the recession. Both are announcing products and road maps that fit their SMB customers better, and Overland has both managed to raise another $12 million and hire Geoff Barrall to be their CTO, which could keep them around long enough to deliver on the vision. MAID pioneer Copan wasn't so lucky, however.

November 19, 2009 10:51 AM
Cisco's recent Tandberg acquisition announcement further underscored the company's evolving strategic focus on a communications medium that demands higher bandwidth and more applications-focused networks.
