October 05, 2012 10:59 AMA recent survey shows increasing adoption of network-based replication of backup data, which is key to a robust data protection and disaster recovery strategy.
June 08, 2012 01:20 PMDeltaStor DBeXstream is the only tool that can dedupe multistream and multiplexed data, according to Sepaton. Learn more about the database deduplication technology and other features of DeltaStor 6.1.
March 22, 2012 09:00 AMToday just about every vendor in the storage market has data deduplication as a feature in one or more of their products. While those of us that work with multiple deduplication products on a regular basis know there are big differences between the various technologies that vendors call data deduplication many users don’t know how to pick the deduplication solution that will best fit their needs.
January 25, 2011 08:00 AMIt's a double blow for storage professionals: Data is growing exponentially, while backup windows are shrinking. Sepaton, a company that already claims to provide the fastest backup, is now shipping the S2100-ES2 Series 1910/2910 system with version 6.0 software. It delivers "the industry's fastest performance, multiprotocol support, high reliability and industry-leading deduplication," say company officials. At up to 1,500Mbytes/second/node, the 2100 provides more than double the performance of previous models. It has 64-bit hardware and software in a 2U form factor, with 48Gbytes of RAM and 72 percent less of a power/cooling footprint. In addition, it adds support for Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage on 10 Gbit Ethernet concurrently with Fibre Channel tape emulation, which should ease platform migration issues for enterprise customers.
March 08, 2010 11:30 AMSepaton adds deduplication along with capacity and bandwidth optimization to its enterprise storage platform with today's introduction of the S2100-MS2. The S2100-MS2 sits in the midrange of the Sepaton products. A rack-ready device with capacity to back-up and restore of up to 40TB is aimed at small enterprises, the MS2 can be equipped for up to 160TB of useable data, while the existing ES3 can be configured for up to 1.6 Petabytes of data. The 2100-MS is currently available, listing for a two-node 30 Terabyte system starts at $321,000.
February 01, 2010 09:00 AMWith the new versions of Backup Exec and NetBackup due Monday, Symantec's finally joined CommVault, IBM, Atempo and most of their other backup software competitors by integrating data deduplication into their mainline backup software. Now that you can dedupe data your media server of your choice we have to ask the question "Where is the most cost effective place to dedupe backup data?"
January 05, 2010 08:00 AMOne of the significant technologies for improving data protection for basic risk management that has emerged and evolved during the past decade is disk-based backup. At the enterprise-level especially, disk-based backup is typically represented by virtual tape libraries (VTLs).While smaller companies have been able to use disk-to-disk and some limited-capacity VTLs, only a few VTL technologies provide the performance and scalability that enterprise organizations need. One of the companies to leverage this enterprise market demand that has become an established market leader in the VTL space is SEPATON.
December 22, 2009 09:28 AMSepaton is a pure VTL solution, meaning it is not available to backup to a NAS target like some of the other companies we have reviewed thus far. Sepaton is focused on enterprise data sets, which should be able to handle the challenges of a fibre attached backup device. They are also a grid or clustered based system, scalable to 16 nodes. Each node can perform deduplication as well as replication.
