Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Akamai, Riverbed Shrink SaaS App Latency

March 01, 2012 09:00 AM
One of the dirty little secrets of software as a service (SaaS) is how long it takes to get the service. A request for access to a SaaS application travels from the client device, across the corporate WAN, across the public Internet to the SaaS provider's data center where the app is hosted--and back--so a lot of time is spent making the connection, not to mention the hundreds or thousands of round trips made in just one session in which the app is being used. Application delivery platform provider Akamai Technologies has partnered with WAN optimization provider Riverbed Technology to include their technologies in each other's products to improve the performance of SaaS applications.

Whether the goal is paperwork reduction or expedience, DocuSign combines the power of digital ink and a slick, cloud-enabled document-handling framework to put an end to the likes of scanning and faxing. And now, those of us with Android devices can use DocuSign, too.

CIOs Discuss SaaS Challenges And Rewards

April 08, 2010 01:46 PM
Software as a Service (SaaS) has many benefits for enterprises, including lower capital costs vs. deploying enterprise software, faster feature upgrades, and fewer operational burdens. But SaaS is not free of problems or risks, as a panel of SaaS-savvy CIOs can testify. Integration of on-premises software and SaaS applications, integration with partners, responsibility for security, managing multiple SaaS vendors and evolving SaaS standards are just some of the challenges raised by CIOs speaking at SaaScon 2010, a two-day conference held this week in Santa Clara, California.

Census Mulls Counting On The Cloud

January 22, 2010 04:00 PM
As it rapidly readies itself to count everyone in the country, the U.S. Census Bureau has tentatively begun tapping cloud computing to reduce the cost and accelerate delivery of its services to its employees and the public. Though census planning is a 10-year effort, the actual census takes place over only a few months. The Census Bureau is in the early stages of hiring and fingerprinting some 1.4 million temporary workers, establishing 500 temporary census offices, and leveraging 170,000 partners -- from Home Depot to small churches -- that will become local voices of census evangelism.
