Cloudmark Cuts Spam Filter Price For Small Businesses

Cloudmark, a provider of anti-spam technology, is introducing a new lower-priced version of its desktop software. The software, Cloudmark DesktopOne, screens out spam to prevent end users from being victimized by viruses, phishing schemes and other threats. While a consumer edition of the product is available for free, the Pro Mode version protects multiple e-mail address and features a Web interface for administrative purposes. The Pro Mode service is $19.95 a year for a license to protect up to two computers, plus $9.95 a year for an additional license for one computer each. The software was previously priced at $39.95 per year.

Symantec Hosted End-Point Protection Combines Software And Services

Symantec has launched Hosted End-Point Protection, a new product and service combination aimed at small and medium-size businesses. The product includes client software that resides on end-user Windows machines and a management console hosted by Symantec. The agent software includes a firewall, host intrusion protection, and anti-virus and anti-spyware scanning. It can check Web, e-mail and IM traffic for malware and viruses. We took the service for a test run in our lab.

HP Forecasts Increased SMB Spending, Rolls Out New Products

HP has launched a number of initiatives to win sales in the small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) IT market. The company is offering new storage and networking hardware and financing deals amid evidence of increased IT spending by customers. HP introduced three new data storage products, revamped its network switch lineup to include products from its acquisition of 3Com and is configuring HP hardware to work in Microsoft's Unified Communications environment. In addition, HP's Financial Services division is offering zero percent financing on lease terms of 12 and 36 months on laptop and desktop computers, printers, scanners, and certain blade and rack-mounted servers.
