Novell Cloud Manager 1.1 also adds an enhanced ability to import existing hosts and virtual machines into the cloud. Cloud Manager was introduced in September to help enterprises manage private cloud environments that they operate within their own data centers.

NetVision's suite is focused on activity monitoring and access rights status reporting, what Steve Coplan, senior analyst in The 451 Group's Enterprise Security Practice, calls this access auditing or access visibility auditing. It's focused on Active Directory, as well as Novell eDirectory as access control mechanisms to corporate file shares.

Novell officials stress that their software is ideal for heterogeneous data centers populated by multiple brands of hypervisors, operating systems, application software and hardware, and that Cloud Manager will help private clouds serve as a stepping stone to adoption of public cloud computing down the road.

July 22, 2010 11:30 AMEnterprise software giant Oracle has announced a new identity management suite that incorporates some of the technology from its recent acquisition of Sun Microsystems in the service of application security. Oracle Identity Management 11g consists of as many as nine different components that perform such tasks as identity management, access management, single sign-on capability, fraud prevention and administrator system management control. The suite works with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g, the company's application infrastructure foundation product. Identity Management 11g has been developed in a service oriented architecture (SOA) design that provides developers with shared services for deploying various security features that simplify application security. Pricing information is not yet available.
