Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

A Network Computing Webinar:
SDN First Steps

Thursday, August 8, 2013
11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET

This webinar will help attendees understand the overall concept of SDN and its benefits, describe the different conceptual approaches to SDN, and examine the various technologies, both proprietary and open source, that are emerging. It will also help users decide whether SDN makes sense in their environment, and outline the first steps IT can take for testing SDN technologies.

Imation Acquires Nexsan; Steps Toward Full-Service Storage Provider

January 02, 2013 06:49 PM
Imation continues to broaden its product portfolio and strengthen its hand in SMB and SME data centers with the purchase of Nexsan.

SSD Opportunity & Threat To Storage Vendors

April 11, 2012 09:00 AM
In part two of our examination of the state of enterprise SSDs/flash storage, we look at the implications for vendors, a mix of new and existing companies seeking to capitalize on a large and growing opportunity.

SSDs Continue Enterprise Penetration

April 04, 2012 09:00 AM
Flash/solid-state disk (SSD) drives are changing the way enterprise storage vendors are developing their products, says Gary Watson, CTO of disk-based data storage systems provider Nexsan, which just came out with its NST-Series of unified storage systems. The release follows LSI’s ongoing transition from spinning disks to solid state with its latest Nytro products, which are focused on bringing flash into the server. And in February, EMC announced that its PCIe/flash-based server cache technology, VFCache, is now available.

Scale-up, Scale-Out Nexsan Blurs the Line

March 07, 2012 09:00 AM
In the beginning, or at least the 20th century, modular scale-up storage systems dominated the market for midrange storage. More recently, the vendors of scale-out systems for NAS and iSCSI have touted the way their systems add controller horsepower and cache as they add capacity. Nexsan's new NST line of unified storage systems combines attributes of both architectures, hoping to leverage the best of both worlds.

Thai Flooding Drives Disk Prices Up, Warranties Down

January 17, 2012 11:00 AM
The effects of fall's record-setting flooding in Thailand continue to reverberate throughout the storage industry. The flooding put several factories that made both completed disk drives for Seagate and Western Digital and components like platters, spindle motors and heads under several feet of water for weeks. The estimated production shortfall of 20 to 50 million drives in the fourth quarter has had a significant impact on the storage industry.

Scale Computing: Scale-Out Storage For SMEs

September 08, 2010 10:39 AM
There's been plenty of talk about scale-out storage, which is a storage architecture built from low cost computing devices and commodity storage systems to form a vast, inexpensive storage pool. Scale-out storage means designating volumes for structured or unstructured data, but not both individually. That can be confining to many users, which is one reason why Scale Computing introduced its N05 Starter Cluster at VMworld last week.

Nexsan Greens Deduplication

January 21, 2010 10:00 AM
While deduplication products slash storage consumption, they often waste energy in the data center. Nexsan has partnered with FalconStor Software to eliminate that tradeoff. Nexsan DeDupe SG 2.0, the company's newest deduplication appliance, gives storage administrators a range of choices to conserve energy when data aren't being written to disk. The SG 2.0 aims at mid-sized business (100 to 1000 employees or 20 Terabytes or more of data). The product uses FalconStor's File-interface Deduplication System (FDS).

Tight Squeeze: EMC Joins The High Density Storage Brigade

January 19, 2010 08:48 PM
Back in the Twentieth century the increase in disk drive bit density allowed us to keep up with growing data sets by periodically replacing disk arrays with ones using drives that hold 4-8 times the data in the same space. Lately the data we have to store has been growing faster than disk drive capacity, and as a result, vendors have been experimenting with high density arrays packing more drives in the same space. This week EMC threw their hat in the ring with a double-deep rack for Clariion mid-range arrays.

Cloud Storage Status Check

June 09, 2009 09:18 PM
The cloud storage and cloud service markets are so robust there are hundreds if not thousands of offerings, and the markets are beginning to become segmented into specific use cases.

Content-Addressable Storage

October 06, 2006 04:00 AM
Content-addressable storage provides a solid foundation for data archiving, and major storage vendors are rolling out product offerings. We discuss the drivers for implementing CAS as well as what the
