Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

A Network Computing Webinar:
SDN First Steps

Thursday, August 8, 2013
11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET

This webinar will help attendees understand the overall concept of SDN and its benefits, describe the different conceptual approaches to SDN, and examine the various technologies, both proprietary and open source, that are emerging. It will also help users decide whether SDN makes sense in their environment, and outline the first steps IT can take for testing SDN technologies.

Meru Plays Catch-Up on WLAN Capabilities

April 01, 2013 04:16 PM
Meru Networks has rolled out new WLAN capabilities for unified access, device onboarding and more, but its "me too" efforts do little to distinguish it in a competitive market.

Toward More Reliable Wireless With AirMagnet Enterprise 10

February 27, 2012 04:40 PM
If the phone isn't ringing, then your wireless users must not be feeling any pain, right? That can be a dangerous assumption in large, complicated wireless networks. Some issues may not be crystallized enough to raise your clients' ire, but the fact remains that performance is degraded. AirMagnet's latest Enterprise version wants to make hard-to-find problems more obvious even as the WLAN gets ever more complex.

Is The Wired Edge Dead? Meru Says Yes

May 06, 2011 07:00 AM
As the WLAN industry continues to try to land body blows against the wired network edge, the message that "yes, you can go all wireless" continues to be reshaped and trotted out again and again. The more open-minded among us tend to cautiously buy into the notion of organizationally ditching the UTP in favor of high-performance wireless, while others can't quite bring themselves to drink the Kool-Aid yet. With Meru Networks' announcement of its Mobile Edge wireless platform, the "virtual cell" folks take their turn at trying to change the hearts and minds of network managers who may be considering Ethernet switch refreshes.

Up, Up, And Away With Meru Networks And Aircell

September 15, 2010 03:00 PM
Putting network connectivity in the hands of airline passengers is not a new idea. Back in 2001, I spent considerable time talking with Boeing's Connexion team about their new on-board client access initiative. With a BS in Aeronautics and a career in IT, I couldn't get enough of the story about networks that streak across the sky. Unfortunately, Boeing ultimately couldn't make a profitable go of it, using satellite modems and then-current wireless technology. Connexion quietly closed up shop in 2006 for lack of demand versus high cost of equipment and aircraft retrofit. But times and technology change fast, and there are new players in the airborne WiFi game. A few weeks ago, Meru Networks announced their partnership with Aircell, and this generation of in-flight client access has a much better chance of making good.

Xirrus Advocates For Pure Wireless Environments

August 13, 2010 01:16 PM
Anyone with a pulse in IT knows that wireless networking is muscling out wired Ethernet at home and in business. At a recent Aruba Networks' conference, I was struck by the real-world relevance of the event's running mantra of "wireless where you can, wired where you must." That simple phrase is playing out in my own very large WLAN, where wireless pervades as the main connectivity option for most users, with the patch cable still revered for a shrinking minority of devices. In a recent TCMnet interview, Xirrus CEO Dirk Gates explained how his philosophy goes even further into kissing off wired Ethernet to the desktop through deployment of Xirrus 802.11n Wi-Fi arrays.

Meru Guarantees WLAN Uptime, With Strings Attached

January 19, 2010 10:21 AM
Wireless vendor Meru Networks has introduced a new service assurance program that guarantees 99.99 percent uptime using its enterprise WLAN architecture. Meru's professional services group will be tasked with evaluating, architecting, and monitoring customer networks under the program. While Meru makes aggressive claims about service levels, the conditions that need to be met to achieve these metrics may give pause to some customers.
