Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

A Network Computing Webinar:
SDN First Steps

Thursday, August 8, 2013
11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET

This webinar will help attendees understand the overall concept of SDN and its benefits, describe the different conceptual approaches to SDN, and examine the various technologies, both proprietary and open source, that are emerging. It will also help users decide whether SDN makes sense in their environment, and outline the first steps IT can take for testing SDN technologies.

QLogic Launches FabricCache HBA to Accelerate Writes

April 30, 2013 11:32 AM
QLogic's FabricCache, a Fibre Channel HBA that combines flash memory and caching, may be the easiest way to accelerate write-intensive applications.

Data Center, Fibre Channel, Ethernet Spending on the Rise--Kind of

June 22, 2012 11:16 AM
First-quarter sales of data center equipment grew year over year, but were down from Q4 2011. Fibre Channel and Ethernet products saw highs, but that won't last, according to Infonetics Research. Learn why, and how virtualization and convergence factor into the picture.

Brocade Broadens 16-Gbps Fibre Channel Portfolio

April 20, 2012 11:00 AM
Brocade is broadening its line of 16-Gbps Fibre Channel switches with the introduction of the entry-level 24-port 6505 Switch, and has identified IBM as its first OEM partner to deliver a 16-Gbps Brocade switch as a component of the IBM Flex System x240. Finally, the network infrastructure vendor's stand-up 16-Gbps HBAs are now available for integration with IBM System x in rack and tower form factors.

Two More Stealthy Solid-State Storage Startups

March 01, 2012 09:00 AM
My last post discussed, or at least mentioned, all the startups, and re-startups, building storage systems designed around flash memory that have made public announcements. Most startups spend the time they're developing Version 1.0 of their products in stealth mode so they can pop up fully formed like Athena from the skull of Zeus. We at DeepStorage have developed our own startup detection system that ferrets out those flying under the radar. In this column we'll look at a pair of stealth startups: XtremIO and Proximal Data.

Consolidation, Scale-Out Architectures And Virtualization Drive 2012 Storage Trends

February 27, 2012 01:00 PM
Enterprise storage infrastructure still contains quite a bit of direct-attached storage (DAS), but SMEs are in the process of making the move to consolidated storage, a shift that has already taken place at the Fortune 500 level. Even as storage consolidation catches on in the enterprise, though, there is a trend towards building scale-out storage architectures.

Nimbus Sets The Stage For Mainstream Enterprise SSD

February 13, 2012 09:00 AM
Solid-state array pioneer Nimbus Data's new E-Class array system is a sign that solid-state storage is moving from the high-performance fringe to the mainstream of the enterprise data center. Most first-generation, all-solid-state arrays, including Nimbus Data's own S-class, were best suited to targeted applications where high performance with single points of failure was acceptable. The new asset class, like most midrange disk arrays, has a dual-controller design to satisfy my enterprise reliability requirements.

Big Switch Networks Intros Open-Source OpenFlow Controller

January 17, 2012 09:00 AM
Big Switch Networks, a new vendor in the nascent but growing field of OpenFlow-based networking, has introduced an open source controller for companies that want to build applications on top of the controller in an environment where the network intelligence is in the software-based controller rather than in the physical hardware of routers and switches. Big Switch, which also has a commercial controller offering in beta release, said it is offering the open source controller, called Floodlight, to stimulate development on the OpenFlow protocol.

Emulex Claims Top FC HBA Performance

October 10, 2011 04:19 PM
Emulex calls its new LightPulse 16-Gbit Fibre Channel host bus adapters the fastest Fibre Channel HBAs announced, able to deliver more than 1 million I/O per second (IOPS) on a single port. Already being sampled by OEMs, the single-channel LPe16000 and dual-channel Lpe16002 adapters will be available later this quarter.

QLogic Adds 5 Years To Fibre Channel
