May 02, 2013 03:55 PM
InteropNet, the production network for Interop Las Vegas, is testing and showcasing a variety of technologies, including a network fabric from Avaya and network configuration software from Tail-f Systems.Inside InteropNet's Hot Stage
April 19, 2013 02:24 PM
The hot stage lets the InteropNet team assemble and configure the hardware and software that powers Interop ahead of the conference itself. Team members test designs and work out bugs. Here's an inside look.VMworld Has VXLAN Winning the Network Overlay War
August 29, 2012 11:35 AM
Several vendors, including VMware, showed VXLAN implementations with vSphere. That's a good start for a new protocol, and with VMware's backing we'll see even greater support coming up.Fabric Wars: Too Soon To Pick A Winner
May 01, 2012 09:00 AM
While the networking giants--Cisco Systems, Brocade and Juniper Networks--battle it out for domination of the emerging fabric networking segment, a host of new competitors are nipping at their heels. Other networking companies--such as Avaya, Enterasys and Alcatel-Lucent--as well as computer companies edging into the networking space--such as HP and Dell--are among those joining the fray.Network Managers: Know Thyself
February 09, 2012 12:00 PM
As few as 25% of network managers have a clear understanding of what traffic courses through their networks and how to best manage it. Gigamon now offers technology that provides visibility for various network management tools that track performance, quality of service, security and other important metrics.App Adapter To Help Solarflare Beat Out 10-GbE Competitors Like Broadcom, Intel, Emulex
February 09, 2012 09:00 AM
Solarflare, a maker of network interface software and hardware, has announced a new 10-Gbit Ethernet (GbE) adapter that improves application performance for high-demand computing environments such as financial services firms. Many of those firms tried to develop their own field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to speed up performance but were stymied by the cost and engineering complexity.Cisco Expands 40, 100 GbE Switching Portfolios
February 02, 2012 09:00 AM
Cisco Systems is introducing new switches with 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capabilities, which are the coming new standards for switching speeds on networks. The 40GbE capacity is now available on its Catalyst 6500 switching line for campus networks, while 100GbE is available on the Nexus 7000 line for data center and service provider networks. The company also announced two new fixed-configuration platforms providing high-density 10GbE switching, which is the fastest growing category of switches today.Forecast: 10GbE To Be The Top-Selling Ethernet Switch By 2016
January 27, 2012 12:07 PM
Sales of 10-Gbit per second (Gbps) Ethernet switches are expected to reach $13 billion by 2016 and will constitute nearly half of a total $28 billion Ethernet switch market by then, a forecast from the research firm Dell'Oro Group states. And even as data center operators upgrade from 1-Gbit Ethernet switches to 10-Gbit Ethernet to handle exponentially larger volumes of network data traffic, sales of even faster 40-Gbit Ethernet and 100-Gbit Ethernet switches will also be picking up.Networking Buyers Put Reliability And Performance First
January 12, 2012 03:30 PM
When evaluating which company to buy their networking equipment from, business IT buyers say their top priorities are product reliability and performance, ahead of acquisition or operating costs and well ahead of product innovation, according to a survey of IT professionals released this week.Network Buyers Survey: Standards Trump Features
January 11, 2012 09:00 AM
When it comes to buying new network equipment, enterprise customers prefer technology built to industry standards over products that may have innovative, but proprietary, features, a newly released survey shows. Although network vendors, including industry leader Cisco Systems, are introducing innovations such as 40 Gbit Ethernet connectivity, multipath schemes such as fabric networks and converged Fibre Channel and Ethernet, buyers ranked 'adherence to industry standards' as their highest priority in choosing a vendor.Best of the Web
