May 07, 2013 09:00 PMThe Best of Interop award recognizes innovation in eight tech categories, including networking, cloud, security, mobility and more. Winners include Arista, ExtraHop, Talari Networks and Citrix.
April 24, 2013 12:33 PMThe Nexus 6004 is a 10-Gpbs/40-Gbps data center switch. While a bit of a power hog vs. competitors’ boxes, it promises line rate forwarding on all ports, with 1-microsecond latency. I look at the architecture that makes this possible.
April 18, 2013 07:51 PMThe march to SDN designs has led many to think we're entering an era of dumb switches. Instead, look for the commodity silicon to get a lot smarter.
February 15, 2013 05:44 PMNews roundup: McAfee connects ePolicy Orchestrator to Enterprise Security Manager; Arista Launches Data Analyzer; Zscaler goes big with Security Cloud analytics; Anturis unveils beta IT monitoring tool
October 16, 2012 12:44 PMSwitchX-2 supports OpenFlow and leverages Mellanox’s Virtual Protocol Interconnect technology for simultaneous InfiniBand and Ethernet connections.
September 26, 2012 10:20 AMArista's new 7150S switches connect to third-party SDN controllers and provide support for VXLAN tunnels for better virtual machine mobility.
August 29, 2012 11:35 AMSeveral vendors, including VMware, showed VXLAN implementations with vSphere. That's a good start for a new protocol, and with VMware's backing we'll see even greater support coming up.
March 27, 2012 09:00 AMApplications and initiatives like private cloud computing, virtualization and mobility are placing increasing pressure on network infrastructure to be faster and more capable. Initiatives like software-defined networking and protocols such as OpenFlow can make the network more flexible and manageable, but they don’t really solve the problem of application performance where high-speed, low-latency requirements are the rule. Only by removing hops and their attendant latency from the network will we continue to see performance gains. Arista’s 7124FX switch uniquely puts customer programmable FPGAs at the edge of the network for microsecond application processing.
March 23, 2012 09:00 AMIT departments looking to put up private cloud environments in a hurry, and without some of the complexity usually associated with cloud infrastructure, would do well to take a look at Piston Cloud from Piston Cloud Computing.

VXLAN is an Experimental IETF draft of protocols to enable the creation of a large overlay, multi-tenant network.
: OpenFlow is poised to reach over-hyped status, yet there are practical, useful reasons for keeping an eye on Openflow. The biggest cloud players are involved and driving the feature creation.
Get a primer on the Openflow protocol and what it can do for networking.
