Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

SDN Doesn't Mean Cheaper Networking

September 23, 2013 05:04 PM
The most common prediction about SDN is that networking will get cheaper. It won't. Here's why.

Arista 7500E Switch Puts Up Big, Big Numbers

May 01, 2013 11:30 AM
Arista Networks’ 7500E makes switches exciting again. New line cards support 10, 40 and 100GbE mix-and-match ports and offer outstanding port density. Arista’s per-port pricing is also compelling.

Alcatel-Lucent Entry Signals Fierce Core Router Vendor Competition

May 23, 2012 12:30 PM
Alcatel-Lucent's entry into the $4B annual market for Internet core routers signals the fierce competition ahead in the industry.

Broadcom Enables Programmable 100-GbE Switches

April 25, 2012 09:00 AM
With Internet back-haul switches being asked to handle exponentially more traffic, most service provider and Internet back-haul networks are going to completely skip over the 40 GbE step and go straight to 100 GbE. Broadcom has introduced a new line of switch processors that can be reprogrammed to add new functionality to the switch and support new protocols as they come along.

Forecast: 10GbE To Be The Top-Selling Ethernet Switch By 2016

January 27, 2012 12:07 PM
Sales of 10-Gbit per second (Gbps) Ethernet switches are expected to reach $13 billion by 2016 and will constitute nearly half of a total $28 billion Ethernet switch market by then, a forecast from the research firm Dell'Oro Group states. And even as data center operators upgrade from 1-Gbit Ethernet switches to 10-Gbit Ethernet to handle exponentially larger volumes of network data traffic, sales of even faster 40-Gbit Ethernet and 100-Gbit Ethernet switches will also be picking up.

Networking Buyers Put Reliability And Performance First

January 12, 2012 03:30 PM
When evaluating which company to buy their networking equipment from, business IT buyers say their top priorities are product reliability and performance, ahead of acquisition or operating costs and well ahead of product innovation, according to a survey of IT professionals released this week.

Network Buyers Survey: Standards Trump Features

January 11, 2012 09:00 AM
When it comes to buying new network equipment, enterprise customers prefer technology built to industry standards over products that may have innovative, but proprietary, features, a newly released survey shows. Although network vendors, including industry leader Cisco Systems, are introducing innovations such as 40 Gbit Ethernet connectivity, multipath schemes such as fabric networks and converged Fibre Channel and Ethernet, buyers ranked 'adherence to industry standards' as their highest priority in choosing a vendor.

Dell'Oro Group Expands Coverage On 10Gbps Ethernet Switches (10GbE)

Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced today that it has enhanced its reporting on the 10 Gbps Ethernet (10GE) segment of the Ethernet Switch market. This new coverage provides more insight into the fastest growing area in data center networking, including detail on 10GE purpose built top-of-rack (ToR) switches, 10GE blade switches for the data center, and a break-out of 10GE copper and fiber ports, including 10G Base-T and SFP+ direct attach copper ports.

QLogic: Out With The Old, In With The Old

August 05, 2010 05:17 PM
QLogic announced results for the first quarter of its fiscal 2011 in July. The company posted another quarter of exceptional profitability driven by cost-cutting. However, the good news was offset by the second consecutive quarter of declining revenue for both the company and its core host adapter business. Company revenue of $142.6 million in Q1 represented a quarter-over-quarter decline of 2.13 percent, with the core host adapter business down 1.16 percent quarter-over-quarter.

Verizon Completes Industry-Leading 100G Ethernet Field Trial

June 23, 2010 08:54 AM
Continuing to lead the industry in 100G technology, Verizon has completed a field trial carrying 100 gigabit-per-second Ethernet traffic on a metropolitan Ethernet infrastructure. Using Alcatel-Lucent equipment deployed in Verizon's Switched Ethernet Services network, the trial successfully transmitted data over 12.7 kilometers (7.9 miles) of field fiber in the company's Dallas area network.
