Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Emulex Tunes Up I/O Monitoring And Analysis Solution

November 03, 2011 08:16 AM
The new 2.0 release of OneCommand Vision delivers increased scalability, usability improvements, custom alerting, and added operating system and hypervisor support, says Emulex. The software, which addresses the proverbial "blind spot" in the data center--namely, I/O--analyzes end-to-end I/O latency, various protocol events and other critical performance metrics, says Emulex VP Shaun Walsh. "That has really been the key, understanding the latency; the more you eliminate latency, the easier it is to achieve SLAs."

DPMS Pioneer Bocada Adds Virtualization, Opens Up SMB Markets

November 01, 2011 08:19 AM
Calling itself the leader in data protection management software (DPMS), Bocada is addressing a gap in backup management reporting caused by the growth of virtualization. Its Vision offering, a DPMS product that manages data protection in virtual environments, is available as a stand-alone offering or in a module for the company's Prism product that bridges the gap between physical and virtual protection.

Cloud Success Factor: Rethink Application Development

October 28, 2011 08:08 AM
In terms of performance and business agility, private cloud is the foreign import compared to your family sedan data center of today. And when you migrate to that cloud, if you bring along your old ways of thinking and siloed application development mindset, you’ll miss out on the benefits the platform provides. You need to ensure your services and applications are developed in a way that harnesses the full potential of the architecture.

Federal CIO Unveils Initiative To Push XML, Virtualization, Agile In IT Planning

October 28, 2011 07:57 AM
The CIO of the U.S. government unveiled in Silicon Valley this week Future First, an initiative in which the newest approaches to developing information technology would be leveraged to run federal agencies.

Hypervisors Are Not the Droids You Seek

October 26, 2011 08:21 AM
Long ago, in a data center far, far away, we as an industry moved away from big iron and onto commodity hardware. That move brought with it many advantages, but it also brought higher hardware and operating system software failure rates. This change in application stability forced us to change our deployment model and build the siloed application environment: one application, one operating system, one server.

Cloud Application Management Gets A New Road With rPath Cloud Engine

October 21, 2011 03:18 PM
Cloud software vendor rPath has announced its rPath Cloud Engine, a product that is intended to make it easier for IT administrators to install and update applications on virtual machines in the cloud, both public and private. The product, based on the company’s former rPath X6 software, doesn’t use scripts to install applications but instead generates the software configurations itself, based on an application’s current run-time environment.

Choosing The Right Private Cloud Storage

October 21, 2011 09:35 AM
One of the key decisions in architecting an infrastructure for private cloud is selecting a storage platform for the deployment. Storage is a key component of the infrastructure and will play a major role in the overall performance of the private cloud. The storage decision carries additional weight due to its larger investment and typically longer refresh cycle.

Uptime Offers 'Set It And Forget It' VMware Performance And Capacity Management

October 20, 2011 08:00 AM
Toronto-based Uptime software is adding VMware monitoring to the latest release of its IT systems management performance and capacity software for midmarket and enterprise organizations. Major Extension Of VMware's Management Vision

October 18, 2011 03:41 PM
VMware is announcing three major launches; a revamped VMware vCenter Operations and two new suites, the VMware vFabric Application Management and VMware IT Business Management. The company says that unlike traditional--and failing--approaches characterized by physical distributed systems and siloed management disciplines, VMware’s solutions take advantage of cloud infrastructure, are focused on eliminating IT complexity rather than orchestrating it, and will support IT’s ability to act as a broker of services to the businesses it serves.

EMC Boosts/Enhances VCE Vblock Provisioning

October 17, 2011 02:00 PM
EMC's Ionix UIM/Provisioning software is getting a facelift for the VCE Vblock platform. The Virtual Computing Environment coalition of Cisco, EMC and VMware is targeting the data center with pre-packaged, pre-validated solutions that combine virtualization, networking, computing, storage, security and management technologies called Vblocks. Unified Infrastructure Manager 3.0, which will ship early next month, is software designed to simplify the transition from physical to virtual to private cloud infrastructures.
