Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Network Managers: Know Thyself

February 09, 2012 12:00 PM
As few as 25% of network managers have a clear understanding of what traffic courses through their networks and how to best manage it. Gigamon now offers technology that provides visibility for various network management tools that track performance, quality of service, security and other important metrics.

App Adapter To Help Solarflare Beat Out 10-GbE Competitors Like Broadcom, Intel, Emulex

February 09, 2012 09:00 AM
Solarflare, a maker of network interface software and hardware, has announced a new 10-Gbit Ethernet (GbE) adapter that improves application performance for high-demand computing environments such as financial services firms. Many of those firms tried to develop their own field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to speed up performance but were stymied by the cost and engineering complexity.

Virtualization, Cloud Having Little Impact On Databases

January 29, 2012 11:00 AM
Cloud computing has taken center stage during the last two years as the hot enterprise technology, but in the database realm, the public cloud and off-site hosted database services still represent too many unknown factors to truly have mass adoption. According to the co-author of the InformationWeek "State of Database Technology" report, the public cloud is so far having very little impact on enterprise databases.

Networking Buyers Put Reliability And Performance First

January 12, 2012 03:30 PM
When evaluating which company to buy their networking equipment from, business IT buyers say their top priorities are product reliability and performance, ahead of acquisition or operating costs and well ahead of product innovation, according to a survey of IT professionals released this week.

Ixia Launches Network Testing Tool For Enterprises

May 12, 2011 10:30 AM
Ixia, a company that provides testing tools for network equipment vendors, has just introduced the IxNetwork v6.00 test application, which includes a new, intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), productivity tools, and automated test suites. The company said it is expanding from network equipment makers to directly serve enterprise data centers and service providers, such as wireless phone carriers, which have an increasing need to test their networks before putting them into production. Six Ways To Fail In The Cloud

January 24, 2011 11:33 AM
Our 2011 InformationWeek Analytics State of Cloud Computing Survey shows a 67 percent increase in the number of companies using cloud services, up from 18 percent in February 2009 and 30 percent in October 2010. IT now has a choice: Grab ownership of what's poised to be a core part of the enterprise technology toolset, or shortchange key functions and set ourselves up for disaster.

vSphere Tops Hyper-V in Disk I/O

January 17, 2011 12:21 PM
As a user of server virtualization tools, and a follower of the market, I've always thought that VMware's lead was evident primarily on the management side of the ledger--with vCenter integration, vMotion, Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) and the like. Microsoft Hyper-V, I thought, was a competitive hypervisor that needed a bit more age in the bottle to develop the features that I love in vSphere. Then Overland Storage hired my firm, DeepStorage.net, to test its SnapSAN S2000 in both environments, and I saw that the same hardware could perform about 23 more input/output operations per second (IOP) under vSphere than under Hyper-V.
