Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Fretting Over 802.11ac

October 14, 2011 08:40 AM
Call me a downer, call me a cynic, but I consider myself a realist. The not-yet-draft version of IEEE 802.11ac is building up steam just off the wireless stage, and I'm here to tell my fellow wireless network administrators that now is the time to start worrying.

Cisco Challenges HP Claim That Its Networking Equipment Is Cheapest

October 12, 2011 11:56 AM
Cisco Systems has released a study it commissioned that challenges HP's claim that its networking equipment is 30% to 50% less expensive than Cisco's. The study, shared on a Cisco webcast Monday, shows that while the upfront cost of HP equipment is less, when the TCO of the network over five years is factored in, the Cisco premium shrinks to only 4% to 7% and that the quality of Cisco network technology is worth that modest premium.

F5 Launches IPv6 Professional Services

October 05, 2011 08:00 AM
While Nemertes Research recommends that enterprises should already have started planning for an IPv6 transition, the reality is that it's not even on the radar for almost 80% of respondents to the company's 2011 to 2012 benchmark. IT professionals at 78% of companies said that their organization has no transition plan yet.

InteropNet's IPv6 Network Evolves For Interop New York

October 04, 2011 12:01 PM
Some of the most interesting technology to be seen at this week's Interop will be running inside of the show’s InteropNet network. That’s because, as was the case at the spring Interop show in Las Vegas, IPv6 will be a big part of InteropNet, serving as both a demonstration of the technology that will run the Internet in the near future and, at the same time, providing a good set of lessons learned for businesses deploying IPv6.

The Fear And Loathing Of /64s On Point-To-Point Links

October 04, 2011 08:28 AM
I discussed in a previous article the necessity of abandoning IPv4 thinking when creating IPv6 address designs, and how our deeply ingrained need to conserve addresses can muddle our thinking. Nowhere does this conservative aversion to address waste snarl at us as menacingly as when we consider – completely compliant with the recommendations of ARIN and other RIRs – assigning /64 subnets to point-to-point links.

Juniper Is 'Simply Connected'

October 03, 2011 08:09 AM
Juniper has announced a new go-to market strategy for the enterprise LAN called Simply Connected. The strategy has two connotations, according to Juniper: Users simply want to connect to the network easily and quickly, and IT wants easy-to-manage networking extending from the user to the core.

CloudFlare Rolls Out Free IPv6-to-IPv4 Translation Service

September 30, 2011 08:01 AM
It may take a couple of years before an organization will have to make the switch to IPv6, but there is no question that the switch will be made. And the majority of IT professionals aren't prepared. According to a recent survey, 80% of about 2,400 respondents feel they are not educated enough on the subject to perform an IPv6 migration, half don’t know which of their network elements support IPv6 today, and 70% are concerned about whether they can successfully implement an IPv6 deployment.
