Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Solarwinds Eases Network Device Tracking

May 31, 2011 07:00 AM
In a move that will help network administrators locate specific user end nodes that might be causing problems, SolarWinds has announced the SolarWinds User Device Tracker. The software works by taking an IP address, host name or Media Access Control (MAC) address, and then responding with information about the device, such as the switch name, port, port description or and the virtual LAN on which it’s located. In addition, network administrators can set up a notification alert for when a specific device connects to the network, which can be useful in helping protect against security incidents such as network intruders.

NetScout Improves Network And Application Analysis And Monitoring

May 06, 2011 11:00 AM
Building on the real-time data mining capabilities of the Adaptive Session Intelligence (ASI) technology that it announced in November of last year, NetScout Systems has rolled out nGenius Enterprise Intelligence. nGenius Enterprise Intelligence is the first module built on the ASI technology, which is intended to provide service-level analysis on an end-to-end session basis of network communication.

Gigamon Introduces New Data Access Switch For High-Density Uses

May 06, 2011 08:17 AM
Gigamon, a maker of appliances that analyze packet flow on data networks, has introduced a new data access switch that intelligently directs specific types of data to the appropriate data analysis tool. The GigaVUE-HD8 will be demonstrated at the Interop technology conference that begins May 8 in Las Vegas.

Data Centers: Who's On First?

April 26, 2011 03:10 PM
For the fourth installment in NETWORK COMPUTING's five-part examination of the changes transforming the data center, we start with the shot heard around the IT world, when in March 2009, network powerhouse Cisco announced that it was taking on its server/data center rivals--HP, IBM and Sun (now Oracle)--with its Unified Computing System strategy, a.k.a. Project California. In a video supporting the March 16 announcement, John Chambers said, "It isn't just a new technology, it's an approach to virtualization and to the data center that is very unique in the industry."

Cisco 'Primes' Its Borderless Networks Portfolio

April 20, 2011 10:30 AM
Cisco is expanding its Borderless Networks portfolio--the architecture that incorporates routing, switching, mobility, security and wide-area network (WAN) optimization--with new security, management and video capabilities. Highlights include the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), the centralized policy engine for the Cisco TrustSec solution that enforces a context-aware access security policy, distinguishes between organization-owned and personal user devices, and automates security with network-enforced access policies and encryption.

With HP, Egenera Poised For Explosive Growth

April 11, 2011 10:30 AM
Not so long ago, Engera, a developer of an open converged infrastructure and unified computing solution, was considered at best a marginal player with an "opportunity to become less irrelevant." Fast forward to February, and the company reported its best financial year on record, with software orders doubling quarter over quarter. Its software sales were up 200 percent year over year, with the average PAN (Processing Area Network) Manager order size doubling during that time frame.

New Virtela Technology Uses 'Predictive Analytics' To Head Off Network Outages

March 16, 2011 08:00 AM
An IT infrastructure management services provider has introduced new technology that it says can identify and prevent problems that could interrupt service. Virtela Technology Services says its VirtelaPredict technology continuously monitors network event logs and other performance metrics, and, using complex algorithms, can identify early warning signs that could lead to an outage.

Vendor Consolidation Coming to Your Data Center?

March 07, 2011 08:51 AM
The movement to combine server, storage, and network devices has the potential to cut costs for customers, which is a plus. However, as the dividing lines between different product categories fall, so might the vendors themselves. This change could benefit companies with the right equipment but create problems for those that have taken a best of breed approach with their data center product purchases.
