Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Next-Gen Networking Drives IT Budgets

March 20, 2012 10:10 AM
Vice President Joe Biden once said, "Don't tell me your values, show me your budget and I'll tell you your values." If the vice president saw the enterprise IT spending budgets, he would rightly conclude that they place an increasingly higher value on their networks as the critical circulation system for all of their IT assets. As demands are placed on networks to handle more video traffic, migrate to 10GbE connectivity, connect mobile and wireless devices, and handle the increase in data traffic brought about by virtualization, companies are investing significantly in their networks in 2012.

Trying To Stay Sane In A Crazy Wireless World

March 05, 2012 11:00 AM
I'm here to tell you, supporting wireless and mobile clients is nothing like keeping our Ethernet-tethered users happy. In the wired network world, you either get the speed that you're supposed to, or some counter or log somewhere points you to what's wrong. In the wireless realm, the variables are almost infinite. It's way more complicated, and getting worse. A lot worse.

AppSense Unveils Smartphone Encryption

February 22, 2012 09:00 AM
DataLocker, which will enable smartphone users to encrypt sensitive information in personal cloud services such as Dropbox, is the first product to come out of the new research arm created by virtualization technology provider AppSense. Intended to create new computing technologies geared toward both end users and IT, the focus of AppSense Labs will be "to research technologies that include cloud, mobile and data, and to build prototype products that bring a consumer experience to IT," according to the company.

DocuSign Does Android

February 09, 2012 09:00 AM
One of the great promises of the mobile device explosion is increased productivity. But productivity is in the eye of the beholder, and many mobile users still haven't caught on to the notion that you can sign documents digitally, with a legally binding signature, from a mobile device. Whether the goal is paperwork reduction or expedience, DocuSign combines the power of digital ink and a slick, cloud-enabled document-handling framework to put an end to the likes of scanning and faxing. And now, those of us with Android devices can use DocuSign, too.

Prepare The Mobile Ship For Ludicrous Speed!

January 29, 2012 12:30 PM
Thinking back on the 1987 movie "Spaceballs," I picture a comical Dark Helmet standing on the bridge of his ship. In my mind, he holds a smartphone and contemplates the latest buzz on mobile network speeds, fresh from the International Telecommunications Union. As he ponders the 100-Mbps data speeds soon to be delivered by his preferred carrier, he utters the order, "Prepare for ludicrous speed," and the ship IMT-Advanced warps off to hyperspace at an impossibly crazy velocity. Speeds in the mobile data world are about to get quite exciting.

BlueStacks Brings Android Apps To Windows

October 13, 2011 10:25 AM
Bluestacks is a virtualization layer that runs on Windows PCs and allows users to run Android apps. Rather than run a full Android emulator, including the UI, Bluestacks provides enough of the Android OS to run most apps as if they were native Windows apps.
