Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Graybar Tracks Application Performance With Precise Tool

September 08, 2010 10:59 AM
In late August, the IT group at Graybar was getting calls about slow performance from its users accessing the company's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. So the IT team fired up an application performance management solution last week from Precise Software to determine the cause of the trouble.

The Application Performance RFI

August 16, 2010 11:00 AM
Over the past few weeks, we have gotten to know Jim - a veteran IT manager who needs to deploy an application performance management (APM) solution. His objectives are to establish key performance indicators around the application including performance metrics and service licensing agreements (SLA). His billing system also has service catalog and fairly detailed security and reporting modules built into the system. As a web-based application, the backend database is distributed, and the application services just under 2,000 users. He knew there was value in APM, but it was hard to quantify. Jim created a detailed requirements document and created the business case. With the CIO, it was time to present his case to the CFO.

Application Performance Management: Laying The Groundwork

July 26, 2010 11:30 AM
This week I was working with a client, we will call him Jim, who was telling me about their mission critical business application. It's primarily a billing system, but also has service catalog and fairly detailed security and reporting modules built into the system. As a web-based application, the backend database is distributed and the application services just under 2,000 users. The CIO is seeking to establish key performance indicators around the application including performance metrics and SLAs. Unfortunately, there is currently no fault or performance monitoring in place. The current performance of the application is judged based on anecdotal calls to the help desk. Obviously, this will not cut it.

Cisco Enhances WAAS 4.2

June 30, 2010 10:00 AM
Cisco has updated its Wide Area Application Server software WAAS so that it provides WAN optimization and application acceleration. While WAN connections speeds have been increasing, the amount of traffic flowing over the WAN is increasingly faster. Organizations often can't afford to provide the enough WAN capacity to meet demand. WAN optimization and application acceleration use a variety of techniques to speed up application delivery to end users. Cisco's enhancements to WAAS are keeping the product competitive with competitors like Citrix and F5, and they are a bigger benefit to existing WAAS customers.

Shake Up Your APM

June 28, 2010 09:47 AM
One of the challenges surrounding APM is figuring out what do do with our legacy management tools. Sure, end-to-end APM makes sense in a new, greenfield environment where we can drop in a just purchased suite of tools to provide holistic monitoring. There are many software tools that can help us accomplish this. However, the reality is that most IT organizations have already invested in an array of framework or point management solutions. The challenge for them is how to eek more performance out of tools that really can't deliver the needed solutions.
