The Information Security Forum this week released a report titled 'Threat Horizon 2014' that looks at the continued global threat to computer networks, businesses and individuals from cybercrime. But one section of the report also looks at 'Internal Threats', which at first glance would seem like another discussion about malicious insiders who attack the network because they’re disgruntled. In fact, the Internal Threats identified in this report are from new technology that comes into an organization, sometimes presenting security issues its advocates weren’t aware of. Seeking to bring cloud computing features to the VMware virtualization private cloud space, Nimbula has announced a new version of its Nimbula Director cloud operating system. In addition to supporting the VMware ESXi hypervisor, Version 2.0 is intended to support VMware's Cloud Foundry platform as a service (PaaS) solution. The company also said it is now a member of VMware's Technology Alliance Program. Other enhancements in this version include the ability for third parties to write software for the Nimbula Director platform, as well as the ability to manage and monitor applications, provide Dynamic Name Service and virtual private network services, and add features intended to make the software more enterprise-ready by improving its scalability.EMC VFCache: Project Lightning Strikes

EMC's recent announcement of the culmination of the code-named Project Lightning resulted in the new VFCache solution, a server-based flash cache, which may be used as a complement or alternative to flash storage that appears as if it were a disk drive. This lightning strikes twice, though not in the same spot. The storage cognoscenti have been all atwitter this morning as EMC announces the details of Project Lightning, the flash-based server cache solution it previewed last May at EMCworld. The first version of the renamed VFCache is now available, and it's clearly a version 1.0 product.
