Pano System 5, the latest version of Pano Logic's zero client desktop virtualization hardware and software product, introduces Pano Controller, a modular architecture that enables flexible deployment options for large, heterogeneous virtual environments, and Pano Maestro, which eases device monitoring of distributed zero client endpoints. It also improves the user experience with 30% to 40% reductions in network bandwidth utilization and 25% better video frame rate quality, as well as extends support for VMware's vSphere 5 and View 5.

Cisco is looking to carve a bigger slice out of the desktop virtualization market with new products, services and an expanded relationship with VDI powerhouse Citrix Systems. A new Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Dimension Data finds that the number of virtual desktop deployments will grow from 27% to 46% in the next two years. While vendors and pundits have been predicting a VDI explosion over the next few years, we're still waiting. According to the study, most organizations’ existing deployments touch less than 500 employees today, but they have plans to scale these deployments to thousands--and ultimately tens of thousands--of users during the next two years.

Virsto's Multihypervisor Solution To Transform VM Storage

Virsto Software has announced a new release of its VM-centric storage hypervisor software for VMware vSphere. Currently in beta, and due to ship next quarter, Virsto for VDI vSphere Edition is "the industry’s first multihypervisor solution" to address the storage challenges specific to virtualized environments. Initially launched in April, the software, priced at $2,800 per host, can reduce overall storage costs for VDI projects by 70% or more, says the company.
