Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Silver Peak Announces Virtual WAN Optimization Platform

June 23, 2010 09:30 AM
Silver Peak joins the ranks of other WAN optimizers such as Blue Coat, A10 Networks, Riverbed, Certeon and others with a virtual platform under the VX family name. But Silver Peak is the first vendor to claim to optimize the IP layer, which is used by real-time protocols such as SIP and video. More efficient protocols should translate into better sounding calls. Competing accelerators accelerate the TCP layer, which is rarely used by SIP-based systems.

Silver Peak Tightens Partnership With HDS

May 19, 2010 02:20 PM
Network admins may be from Venus and storage admins may be from Mars, but there is no doubt that as data and storage converge, they will need each other. One of the fundamental benefits of virtualization is the ability to move VMs from location to location, even over a WAN. That has driven storage networking vendors to support data replication and transmission over a wide area. However, storage protocols can consume lots of bandwidth and need fast interconnects--two requirements that WAN optimization may be able to help with. However, storage systems are closed to all but a few select vendors. Silver Peak's recent global reseller partnership announce with Hitachi Data Systems gives HDS a way to optimize storage networking and opens Silver Peak to HDS customers.

Silver Peak's Odd Approach To SoHo Pricing

March 23, 2010 08:00 AM
Today Silver Peak announced the new NX-1000, a WAN optimization appliance the company is positioning for small and home offices (SoHo). While the product has a form factor that will fit in the spare bedroom where your telecommuters work, its $4,995 price tag is aimed more at Wall Street than Main Street. "I think it's funny they say they are targeting the home office with this device," says Michael Biddick, an analyst at InformationWeek Analytics. "At $5,000, I don't know too many people who would opt for that."
