Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

RAID VS. SLED - Now With SSDs

August 27, 2009 01:34 AM
Twenty years ago academics proposed that a redundant array of the inexpensive drives PCs used could replace the high performance drives that made mainframe DASD farms look like laundromats. The dominance of STEC's ZEUS IOPS in enterprise storage battling it out with Pillar and Dell/Equallogic's whole shelves of lower cost Intel and Samsung SSDs reminds me of the RAID vs SLED battle of the past.

LSI Introduces Affordable, High-Performance Storage System For Midrange Customers

August 26, 2009 12:45 PM

On Large Drives And RAID

August 24, 2009 02:09 PM
Xyratex's recent announcement that they've qualified Hitachi's 2 TB nearline drive for their disk systems got me thinking about how the RAID techniques of the past don't really address the needs of systems with many ginormous drives. As drives get bigger I worry that basic RAID-5 protection isn't sufficient for these beasts.

Sans Digital Expands AccuSTOR By Adding 3U SAS/SATA Rackmount - AS316X2

August 13, 2009 01:42 PM
Sans Digital has added 3U 16-bay rackmount AS316X2 to the existing AccuSTOR JBOD storage series. The original 2U 12-bay AccuSTOR AS212X2 SAS to SAS/SATA rackmount is well received in the market due to its high compatibility with a variety of RAID controllers.

LSI Launches Next Generation RAID Controllers

July 29, 2009 11:00 PM
LSI Corporation unleashed their newest generation of RAID controller cards, the first in their lineup to feature 6Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) technology. The MegaRAID 9200 series cards support a mix of SATA, SAS and solid-state drives (SSDs). For the first time, LSI's SafeStore Encryption Services provides support for self-encrypting drives (SEDs). The MegaRAID 9200 series features PCIe with four and eight port options, offering a mix of external and internal connections.

Storage Virtualization 3.0

July 15, 2009 10:58 PM
Server virtualization is so new and the rate of deployment is so red-hot that people are saying it's going to drive a similar trend of storage virtualization. But the fact is logical representations of physical storage have been around for a long time - we just haven't used the term "storage virtualization." To put the evolution of storage virtualization in perspective, I propose there are two distinct eras that we've already experienced and a third well-defined era on the way.

SGI's InfiniteStorage 6120 Sets New Density Standard For Midrange Storage

June 23, 2009 07:14 PM
SGI's new InfiniteStorage 6120 packs up to 60 drives into a single 4u chassis setting a new record for storage density. Like most other very high density arrays, which top out at 42 or 48 drives, the 6120 uses a top loading design.
