Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Dell Unveils 6Gb SAS, Analyst Yawns

January 18, 2010 08:00 AM
This week Dell began shipping the PowerVault MD1200 and MD1220, a pair of Serial Attached SCSI drive enclosures that support the 6Gb/s transfer rate released last summer, effectively doubling performance of the storage array. The company also unveiled a trio of PowerEdge RAID controllers to handle the increased speeds, which according to claims, boost I/Ops by about 35 percent and provide a level of fault tolerance through redundancy. The high-end PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) H800 supports up to RAID 60.

unRAID But Not Unprotected

January 07, 2010 11:15 AM
One of the things I like best about this job is discovering hand crafted software that elegantly solves the problem its designer had in mind while putting a new twist on familiar technology. Looking for a reliable and yet expandable place to store the media for his home theater PCs Lime Technology's Tom Mortensen came up with unRAID; which lets users build parity protected data stores from drives of different sizes and add capacity on the fly.

Dot Hill's Virtual RAID Improves Software RAID

September 15, 2009 12:07 PM
Dot Hill Systems expands its RAIDCore product line with a Virtual RAID Adapter (VRA), a software RAID product for OEM and original design manufacturers (ODM) to implement RAID functionality in software. VRA, the company claims, can replace hardware RAID controllers in servers sold to SMBs. The product will come in two forms: a basic RAID feature set that ships with the server and enhanced features available through a software license.

Adaptec Adapts, Inovates Around SSDs

September 09, 2009 11:56 PM
I've been saying for months that it will take several years for the industry to fully integrate flash memory into the storage ecosystem. I expected innovation from startups and upstarts like Compellent and Fusion-IO and was surprised when Adaptec started rolling out innovative uses for flash on their internal RAID controllers.

Promise Technology's New VessRAID Aimed At Unstructured Data

September 04, 2009 01:23 PM
Promise Technology is better known for its ATA controllers than its RAID systems, but is hoping that a new storage series, aimed at the growth of unstructured data in small and medium-sized businesses, will help change the public perception. Introduced at VMWorld in San Francisco, the VessRAID series is designed to be green, easy to manage and low cost.
