HP And Microsoft Jointly Develop BI And Data Warehouse Appliances

HP has introduced a line of appliances specially designed and configured to run Microsoft business software, including Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, in order to deliver business intelligence and data warehousing technology to business and enterprise customers. The appliances are designed to be easy to deploy and to avoid the complexity that frustrates IT staffs trying to match hardware and software on their own.

Pano Logic Raises The VDI Bar

Desktop virtualization specialist Pano Logic is shipping the beta version (4.0) of its Pano System, a zero-client device that supports the three major hypervisor platforms (from VMware, Microsoft and now Citrix). The final version (4.1) will be released at the end of January, according to company officials. The company claims its desktop virtualization approach is unique because it is the only vendor to offer a complete solution that includes the client hardware, software, system management and one year of support and maintenance, priced at $389 per unit. Pano Logic also claims that it offers the only desktop virtualization solution available that can support Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere/View interchangeably, as well as interoperate with each platform's management systems.

Dell Accelerates Windows 7 Deployment

On Friday, Dell will release the latest version (3.3) of the Kace K2000 Deployment Appliance, its Microsoft Windows 7 deployment and Windows XP migration product that will feature policy-based migration, offline migration and continuous driver feed updates. Pricing starts at $4,500 for the first 100 nodes or $39,000 per appliance; educational pricing is also available.

StorSimple Armada works by deduplicating and intelligently examining data, keeping the most-used data on serial-attached SCSI drives within the device and migrating less-used data to the cloud.

Quest Updates vFoglight; New Features, Better Reporting

Quest Software has announced version 6.5 of its vFoglight virtualization performance management software, which adds support for Microsoft's Hyper-V, a more easily customized administrative dashboard and improved reporting capabilities. Other new features in this version include improvements in automated responses to event alarms, the ability to more easily determine the root cause of virtual machine problems, broader support for common virtual machine tasks, additional information that is easier to understand about the infrastructure, and support for features present in the most recent versions of VMware.

Microsoft: Bringing Supercomputing To The Masses

At this week's Supercomputing (SC) 2010 conference, Microsoft Corp. took the next step in its self-appointed mission to bring high-performance computing - aka supercomputing - to the masses. Company officials say its "democratizing" aim is to bring supercomputing capacity into the hands of everybody who has a need for it and wants to use it. Microsoft puts the current HPC market at 15 million users, with 1 million accounting for 80 percent of the total capacity. There are another 55 million organizations that have a need - but no access - to HPC.

NetVision Announces Enhanced Access Rights Reporting, Netapp User Activity Monitoring

The newest release of NetVision's access auditing and management suite features enhanced reporting on the state of access rights in the organization and support for user activity and permission changes in NetApp network attached storage (NAS). NetVision's suite is focused on activity monitoring and access rights status reporting, what Steve Coplan, senior analyst in The 451 Group's Enterprise Security Practice, calls this access auditing or access visibility auditing. It's focused on Active Directory, as well as Novell eDirectory as access control mechanisms to corporate file shares.

OpenStack Is Now Open For Windows Server

Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has partnered with Cloud.com to provide integration and support of Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V to the OpenStack project, an open source cloud computing platform. The addition of Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V provides organizations and service providers running a mix of Microsoft and non-Microsoft infrastructure with greater flexibility when using OpenStack.

Infoblox Brings IPAM To Microsoft's DNS And DHCP Servers

Infoblox has released a new module for its networking appliances that makes it easier for corporations to manage Microsoft's DNS and DHCP servers. The Infoblox Microsoft Management module provides Internet Protocol Address Management (IPAM) capabilities, letting IT administrators manage and maintain Microsoft DNS/DHCP servers. It uses a Web-based interface for role-based administration and provides audit logs and automated disaster recovery. The product also helps protect against security and stability risks due to IP errors.
