Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

F5 Launches IPv6 Professional Services

October 05, 2011 08:00 AM
While Nemertes Research recommends that enterprises should already have started planning for an IPv6 transition, the reality is that it's not even on the radar for almost 80% of respondents to the company's 2011 to 2012 benchmark. IT professionals at 78% of companies said that their organization has no transition plan yet.

InteropNet's IPv6 Network Evolves For Interop New York

October 04, 2011 12:01 PM
Some of the most interesting technology to be seen at this week's Interop will be running inside of the show’s InteropNet network. That’s because, as was the case at the spring Interop show in Las Vegas, IPv6 will be a big part of InteropNet, serving as both a demonstration of the technology that will run the Internet in the near future and, at the same time, providing a good set of lessons learned for businesses deploying IPv6.

The Fear And Loathing Of /64s On Point-To-Point Links

October 04, 2011 08:28 AM
I discussed in a previous article the necessity of abandoning IPv4 thinking when creating IPv6 address designs, and how our deeply ingrained need to conserve addresses can muddle our thinking. Nowhere does this conservative aversion to address waste snarl at us as menacingly as when we consider – completely compliant with the recommendations of ARIN and other RIRs – assigning /64 subnets to point-to-point links.

CloudFlare Rolls Out Free IPv6-to-IPv4 Translation Service

September 30, 2011 08:01 AM
It may take a couple of years before an organization will have to make the switch to IPv6, but there is no question that the switch will be made. And the majority of IT professionals aren't prepared. According to a recent survey, 80% of about 2,400 respondents feel they are not educated enough on the subject to perform an IPv6 migration, half don’t know which of their network elements support IPv6 today, and 70% are concerned about whether they can successfully implement an IPv6 deployment.

Bringing IPv6 To A Venue Near You

September 20, 2011 01:47 PM
IPv6 is happening, worldwide. Interest groups of all sizes are needed to help spread knowledge and best practices about the implementation projects we will all eventually face.

Cisco Rolls Out IPv6-Ready Carrier-Class Routers

September 13, 2011 10:40 AM
Cisco has announced three additions to its ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers System portfolio. As with all of its new releases, the latest service provider offerings are IPv6-ready, but it's the mobile solution that is expected to be the big draw initially. The network giant says the proliferation of mobile Internet services and devices such as tablets and smartphones are fueling demand for bandwidth and quality experiences.

IPv6 Design: Forget The IPv4 Rules

September 06, 2011 09:00 AM
You've acquired a nice new IPv6 address block, and now you need to come up with an IPv6 address allocation design for your network. If there is one bit of advice I can offer you as you begin your IPv6 address design, it's this: Abandon almost everything you've learned about IPv4 address design. Throw it right out the window.

IPv6 Is Coming. Time To Get Prepared

August 24, 2011 04:01 PM
IPv6 is coming. Sooner or later, you will be deploying IPv6 on your network, data center, or co-lo servers. It may be a few years off--longer if your ISP has a well thought out transition strategy in place--but IPv6 is different enough that you can learn the ins and outs on a smaller network before you have to deploy it widely. If you are looking for resources, start there. If you have a good resource you want to share, send me an email and I will check it out.

Six Reasons It's Blame IPv6 Day

June 08, 2011 12:41 PM
As far as I am concerned, it's not World IPv6 Day. It's Blame IPv6 Day. This is a good opportunity to take any new technology (OK, IPv6 is not new, but it might as well be) and use it as the whipping boy it deserves to be. It's IPv6's turn. So, lets get started!

On IPv6 Day, Survey Shows Lack Of Preparedness For IP Address Switch

June 08, 2011 12:00 PM
A survey of IT professionals shows a lack of education and preparedness for the transition from the IPv4 system of IP addresses to the new IPv6 standard. The survey, by Infoblox, shows that 80% of about 2,400 respondents feel they are not educated enough on the subject to perform an IPv6 migration, half don’t know which of their network elements support IPv6 today, and 70% are concerned about whether they can successfully implement an IPv6 deployment.
