ServerEngines For Sale? A New Land Grab May Be In Play
November 08, 2009 04:05 PM
Industry sources in the investment community have told me that Ethernet NIC vendor ServerEngines may be looking for a buyer. ServerEngines is one of the key providers of 10GbE NIC connectivity. Apparently, there are a number of companies interested in acquiring the vendor, with LSI as the top suitor. LSI, which has seen its adapter business ramp up in recent quarters, wants to capitalize on a window of opportunity and gain market share from established vendors such as Emulex, QLogic and to some extent, Brocade. Should it happen, the acquisition of privately held ServerEngines will provide LSI with the ability to mount a serious challenge in the highly competitive converged networking space. Combined, LSI and ServerEngines form strong competition in this space.Emulex Announces Collaboration with IBM to Deliver Industry-Leading Storage and Networking Solutions

OneConnect architecture delivers simplified networking, trusted san interoperability and increased business agilityQ&A: HP ProCurve CTO Paul Congdon
October 19, 2009 10:40 AM
Our interview takes a deep diving into networking, with Paul Congdon, HP ProCurve's chief technology officer. Congdon not only opines on managing network sprawl, but he's playing a big part in the solution. As the vice chairman of the IEEE 802.1 working group, Congdon is hard at work on the data center bridging standard, which seeks to make Ethernet the single converged fabric in the data center.External IOV and Data Center Politics
October 16, 2009 07:02 PM
I, like some others, have been concerned that the convergence of storage and data networking could in many organizations end up bogged down as the storage and networking teams fight it out over turf. Some may decide that reducing from two cables each for 10gigE and Fibre Channel to just two 10gig cables isn't worth the trouble but that's means duplicate infrastructures end to end which will hit the budget pretty hard. External I/O virtualization could be the answer.FCoE Isn't Just Another Protocol
October 05, 2009 10:16 AM
My esteemed colleague George Crump views FCoE as just another protocol you can run in your data center if you think it fits your needs, as opposed to what he says is the near religious movement that some vendors would lead you to believe it is. As an old network guy, I can't call an application that requires as many changes to the network itself as FCoE does.H3C Selects Chelsio High Performance 10GbE For Network IP Storage Systems
