Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

EMC Gives Storage Management A Cloud Facelift

July 14, 2011 08:00 AM
Storage leader EMC has created a new solution with a federated architecture that delivers an end-to-end view of all storage assets, single-pane management, and host-through-storage performance monitoring and analysis. ProSphere features agent-less discovery, Smart Groups policy management, and tight integration with the latest EMC and VMware storage and virtualization technologies.

EMC Brings Big Data To The Cloud With Atmos 2.0

July 08, 2011 08:13 AM
EMC is looking to push its cloud storage platform, Atmos, further into the cloud by improving efficiency, increasing capacity and enhancing ease of use. And with the release of version 2.0 of the Atmos software, EMC is claiming that the software is 500% faster than version 1.

Dell Accelerates Transformation; Back To Its Storage Roots?

June 10, 2011 08:00 AM
As this week's inaugural Dell Storage Forum winds down, the gathering of analysts, customers, channel partners and executives offered compelling evidence that the company, once known for its direct sales focus and miniscule R&D budgets, really is changing. Only time will tell if the transformation takes, but if it doesn't, it appears it won't be for lack of effort.

EMC World 2011 Stresses Both The Cloud And Big Data

May 26, 2011 09:21 AM
IT trade shows or vendor events act as a barometer of the IT industry in two ways. The first is to measure the current state of the health of the industry, and the second is to point out the trends that will affect the future of the industry. Based upon the recently concluded EMC World 2011 in Las Vegas, the IT community is alive and well today and the future is very bright, but with a number of challenges. Hey, IT wouldn’t be worth living if there weren’t ongoing challenges.

EMC Focuses On Cloud and Big Data

May 13, 2011 08:43 AM
EMC World has closed its doors, but during the four-day event the storage powerhouse did its best to convince the more than 10,000 attendees that it is the best answer when it comes to the convergence of the cloud and big data. The annual conference featured more than 500 sessions, 100 labs and 100 exhibitors, and, if EMC made big announcements with its hardware refresh in January with 41 new products, there were more than enough announcements made this week.

EMC Gets Serious About SMB Storage

May 04, 2011 11:03 AM
EMC's Iomega portfolio is no stranger to the higher end of the small business storage market, but its latest addition, the StorCenter PX series of desktop and rackmount NAS devices, raises the bar. Acquired by EMC in 2008, Iomega has historically focused on the 25- to 50-user range, but the PX series addresses the 100- to 250-user range, while still clearly differentiating itself from its parent's entry-level VNX family.

EMC Isilon Delivers Breakthrough Performance For Big Data

April 11, 2011 10:07 AM
EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced new generations of its EMC Isilon scale-out NAS hardware and software platforms, delivering industry-leading performance, throughput and replication for big data. Isilon's new hardware platform enables customers to choose from a range of drive configurations, including solid state drives (SSD) with either serial attached SCSI (SAS) or serial ATA (SATA) drives, and combine them with a large, globally coherent cache and next-generation quad core processors to deliver optimum price-performance for accelerating big data access. Leveraging these new hardware innovations, Isilon's OneFS 6.5 operating system delivers enhanced enterprise functionality to improve performance for mission-critical data center operations, while Isilon's SyncIQ 3.0 significantly improves recovery point objectives, providing unmatched big data protection.

New EMC Database Appliances Come Preloaded With SAS Business Analytics Software

April 07, 2011 10:30 AM
On Tuesday, EMC introduced three additions to its Greenplum database appliance line that are paired with SAS High-Performance Analytics software. The appliances leverage massively parallel processing architecture to quickly process and analyze the growing volume of data that businesses are accumulating.

Dell's Storage Strategy To Wean Itself Off Of EMC

March 21, 2011 10:02 AM
Dell is laying out its storage strategy to: exploit the value of several recent acquisitions, expand its product lines and gradually (though not completely) wind down its reseller relationship with storage hardware vendor EMC. Dell's $960 million acquisition of Compellent, completed in February, gives it a multiprotocol tiered storage area network (SAN) product line that's a direct competitor to EMC offerings. Also, the data compression and deduplication software Dell gained with the acquisition of Ocarina Networks in July 2010 will eventually be included across Dell's entire storage product line.

Forecast: Shakeups Looming in the Cloud

March 18, 2011 11:28 AM
There are a number of rumblings in the cloud. One IT behemoth is believed to be eying a strategic acquisition of a powerful cloud software and storage offering, another seems to be repositioning an existing product, and VCs sharpen their focus on what really adds value in the cloud. There are a number of pivotal events that I believe will transpire over the next year in this rapidly changing and expanding market. From start-ups to behemoths, there will be significant changes that will shake up the cloud.
