Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

QLogic Launches New Attack On Network Convergence Landscape

October 07, 2010 01:24 PM
QLogic's announcement today of their Adaptive Convergence strategy is the equivalent of a nuclear blast across the converged networking landscape, metaphorically leveling the competition in its wake. As I have predicted in the past, QLogic is seriously committed to the converged networking sector and is innovating at a rapid pace, gaining material market share and bringing fundamentally new technologies to market that will benefit cloud service providers and highly virtualized environments. This new attack on the network convergence landscape is again bringing the fight, and the pain, to its competitors.

Brocade's MLXe And 100Gb: Bigger, Faster, Denser

September 15, 2010 12:00 PM
Brocade is announcing a new switch chassis, the MLXe, that has more capacity than older models and a dual-port 100Gb line card that the company claims is 1/8 of the price expected by the market, though competitors will eventually catch up. The hardware announcements are focused on speeds and feeds at lower price points, but equally interesting for enterprises is Brocade's unified management platform of data, storage and wireless networking into a single management platform and Brocade's integration plans with third party management and hypervisor products.

Brocade Announces Unified Management Software

September 15, 2010 10:00 AM
Brocade has announced Network Advisor, new software that provides a single management console across the company's product lines, including SAN switches, Ethernet switches and WLANs. Network Advisor also supports Fibre Channel, FCoE, IP and MPLS. The offering unites the company's previously separate management products, Brocade Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) and IronView Network Manager (INM), which came from the 2008 acquisition of Foundry Networks. In addition to managing its own products, Network Advisor will interoperate with management tools from vendors such as VMware, IBM and EMC. The company says the new software will be available in November 2010.

Cisco's Big Plans: Data Center Business Advantage

September 14, 2010 08:00 AM
Cisco is revamping its data center go-to market strategy from Data Center 3.0, which was focused on data center technologies to Data Center Business Advantage. The program positions various technology strategies under a common umbrella of solutions from networking through application delivery. The strategy rests on three pillars: Unified Fabric, which defines data and storage networking; Unified Network Services, which includes security services, application delivery, and network design and consulting; and finally, Unified Computing, which is Cisco servers. Cisco is including their partners in the strategy, using the recently announced Cisco/Citrix Virtual Desktop partnership.

Virtual Instruments: Early Incumbents In The VIO Market

August 20, 2010 11:30 AM
Privately held Virtual Instruments is a company to watch. The company is a 2008 spin-out of Finisar Corporation that has established early incumbency in the nascent market for Virtual Infrastructure Optimization [VIO], the next big wave in management of information technology. Founded in 2008, the company is funded by a group of highly experienced, well known IT industry veterans including CEO John Thompson. The former CEO of Symantec Corporation, Mr. Thompson played a key role in the development of two markets that grew to multi-billion dollars in value: distributed systems management and internet applications security. Mr. Thompson brings world-class leadership experience, familiarity with emerging infrastructure management technology, and a proven track record of successfully exploiting new infrastructure management market opportunities to Virtual Instruments.
