Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Forecast: 10GbE To Be The Top-Selling Ethernet Switch By 2016

January 27, 2012 12:07 PM
Sales of 10-Gbit per second (Gbps) Ethernet switches are expected to reach $13 billion by 2016 and will constitute nearly half of a total $28 billion Ethernet switch market by then, a forecast from the research firm Dell'Oro Group states. And even as data center operators upgrade from 1-Gbit Ethernet switches to 10-Gbit Ethernet to handle exponentially larger volumes of network data traffic, sales of even faster 40-Gbit Ethernet and 100-Gbit Ethernet switches will also be picking up.

Networking Buyers Put Reliability And Performance First

January 12, 2012 03:30 PM
When evaluating which company to buy their networking equipment from, business IT buyers say their top priorities are product reliability and performance, ahead of acquisition or operating costs and well ahead of product innovation, according to a survey of IT professionals released this week.

Network Buyers Survey: Standards Trump Features

January 11, 2012 09:00 AM
When it comes to buying new network equipment, enterprise customers prefer technology built to industry standards over products that may have innovative, but proprietary, features, a newly released survey shows. Although network vendors, including industry leader Cisco Systems, are introducing innovations such as 40 Gbit Ethernet connectivity, multipath schemes such as fabric networks and converged Fibre Channel and Ethernet, buyers ranked 'adherence to industry standards' as their highest priority in choosing a vendor.

Survey: Cisco's Network Domination At Risk

January 10, 2012 10:23 AM
Cisco Systems’ dominance of the networking technology space remains strong but it will have to work harder to keep it that way, according to a recently released survey of IT professionals. Increasingly, the people who buy networking equipment are considering other vendors, such as Dell, HP or IBM, as an alternative to Cisco. In addition, while Cisco is known for its networking innovations, customers prize technology that adheres to common industry standards over products offering unique features.

Avaya Goes After Cisco With New Ethernet Switches

November 17, 2011 02:51 PM
Avaya is updating its Ethernet switch portfolio with six new models designed to bring the capabilities of its Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture to the edge of the campus network. The additions to the ERS 4000 portfolio offer plug-and-play capabilities for IP phones, QoS management, and support for both PoE and PoE+. The company says the Stackable Chassis technology can handle almost three times more traffic than competing solutions while consuming 36% less energy and offering a 40% lower total cost of ownership.

Throwing Bandwidth At Your Network Problems Isn't Enough

March 18, 2011 10:04 AM
The data center is undergoing an unprecedented change, with new demands, vendors, technologies and architectures. In a three-part series, Network Computing takes a closer look at what's happening in the data center, starting with networking, and followed by servers and architectures.

Avaya Extends Virtualization Beyond The Data Center

February 23, 2011 08:00 AM
Avaya is extending its Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA), which debuted last November, beyond the data center to the campus network, adding its virtualization capabilities to the company's Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) 8800 and 8600 products. By bringing network virtualization and IEEE Shortest Path Bridging (802.1aq) to the campus, current 8800 and 8600 customers can install, provision and manage real-time applications and services in minutes rather than days, says Avaya, whose ultimate vision is to virtualize the entire enterprise.

Avaya: CEBP Too Complex

December 15, 2010 08:00 AM
Avaya upgraded its Communication Enabled Business Process (CEBP) under the brand Avaya Agile Communication Environment (ACE) release 2.3, in the process essentially admitting that its initial attempt to incorporate Web services into PBX design was too much for many of today's business users. With the new release, Avaya is pushing three themes: tighter integration with Avaya Aura; enhanced integration with systems such as Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS), IBM Lotus Notes and Sametime environments; and greater control over communications sessions.
