What is a podcast? Podcasts are audio programs that can be listened to at the computer or downloaded and transferred to a portable device, such as an iPod. The files are typically encoded in MP3 format, much like music files. Learn more.
How do I listen to a podcast? When you come across an individual podcast file on a Web page, typically clicking on the link will automatically play in your MP3 software of choice. Or you can download the file and transfer it to a portable device for listening off-line.
What does it mean to "subscribe" to a podcast? This is where podcasts get interesting. It is also possible to subscribe to a podcast "feed" and have the latest podcasts delivered to you automatically. Podcast feeds make use of the same RSS technology used to enable blog feeds.
What are some tools for managing podcasts? Many standard RSS readers now have capabilities for subscribing to and managing podcast feeds. In addition, specialty "podcatching" tools have emerged that make it easy to subscribe to podcasts. Popular tools include:
