Where the Cloud Touches Down: Simplifying Data Center Infrastructure Management

Thursday, July 25, 2013
10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET

In most data centers, DCIM rests on a shaky foundation of manual record keeping and scattered documentation. OpManager replaces data center documentation with a single repository for data, QRCodes for asset tracking, accurate 3D mapping of asset locations, and a configuration management database (CMDB). In this webcast, sponsored by ManageEngine, you will see how a real-world datacenter mapping stored in racktables gets imported into OpManager, which then provides a 3D visualization of where assets actually are. You'll also see how the QR Code generator helps you make the link between real assets and the monitoring world, and how the layered CMDB provides a single point of view for all your configuration data.

Vitesse Adds To Synchronous Ethernet Portfolio With Dual-Port Gigabit Ethernet PHY

CAMARILLO, Calif. (BUSINESS WIRE) Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation, a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, is addressing the cost and power optimization needs in wireless base station and mobile backhaul markets by offering a two-port version of its popular SimpliPHY VSC8664 Quad PHY-layer device. The new VSC8662 is ideal for lower cost, lower power, and lower port count wireless and access equipment requiring Carrier Ethernet features such as timing synchronization across links.

Vitesse is a leader in Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) solutions. The VSC8662, like all other EcoEthernet PHY-layer devices, supports AutoMedia Sense to detect and configure ports for fiber or copper; and ActiPHY power saving mode, which reduces power on inactive ports by up to 80-percent from a bidirectional full-speed mode.

Building on Vitesse's expanding portfolio of solutions with Synchronous Ethernet support, the VSC8662 simplifies I/O in low-cost Carrier Ethernet nodes by enabling integrated support for SGMII interfaces and dedicated recovered clock outputs. Additionally, the VSC8662 can support multiple small form-factor media types through its SerDes pins, including 100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-X, and triple-speed copper. When using fiber media, the IC supports unidirectional transport specified by IEEE 802.3ah.

The dual-port VSC8662 integrates an I2C multiplexer for further ease in interfacing to SFPs or Packet-Over-Ethernet modules. The low-EMI line driver and line-side termination resistors on the chip further simplify its integration into systems using a simplified board layout. The cost-effectiveness and high integration of the VSC8662 make it ideal for a range of Carrier Ethernet wireless and access platforms, including wireless backhaul, 4G base stations, IADs, ADMs, access routers, and other wired network equipment.

Samples of the VSC8662 are available now. Volume pricing is available upon request. More information about the VSC8662 can be found here.
