XO Carried 1.6 Billion VoIP Minutes In Second Quarter

XO Communications Inc. carried 1.6 billion minutes of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic across its national IP network in the second quarter of this year, representing 15% growth over the previous quarter.

The company attributes the growth to increased demand for and use of its commercial and wholesale VoIP solutions. These route both VoIP and circuit-switched traffic across XO's IP network backbone. The company's network supports both IP and time division multiplexing (TDM) traffic and XO claims that it can deliver the traditional telephony quality regardless of the technology used.

"XO has built one of the most advanced IP networks using a single platform to seamlessly support both traditional and IP-based voice services for business and carrier customers," XO Communications chief executive officer Carl Grivner said in a statement. "Our robust network enables us to deliver voice in an all IP environment with the same levels of quality and reliability as traditional phone networks. With this single IP infrastructure for both voice and data, we can offer a broad range solutions that meet our customers' current and emerging requirements."

XO also offers wholesale local voice, long distance termination, VoIP termination and multi-market local inbound calling services to carriers and service providers as well as a wide range commercial solutions and services. The include local voice, dedicated and switched long distance, bundled VoIP solutions, interactive voice response, toll-free, conferencing, and calling card services.
