Last week, Cisco cancelled a "poison pill" anti-takeover plan years earlier than planned for reasons that seem murky at best. Company spokespeople said that the plan wasn't killed as part

But I wouldn't be surprised if Cisco, at some point, looked into a future without spectacular growth, and decided to sell out. If that point comes, it's better to be prepared and not have a poison pill in place, and seek the best suitor.

But that's speculation, and at best several years in the future. Cisco will be around, and sitting pretty, for quite some time.
