Already serving its customers with mobile phones equipped for global telephoning, Verizon Wireless reported Monday that it has launched its Verizon Wireless Fivespot, a "global ready mobile hotspot" that enables users to connect and share data connections with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The device, which measures 3.92-x by 2.11-by 0.55-inches, will be available for $99.99 beginning this Thursday in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores after a $100 mail-in rebate. Developed by ZTE USA Inc. the Fivespot provides global data service in more than 200 countries -- 120 of which have 3G speeds.

The Fivespot, which comes with a pre-installed SIM card, is capable of connecting different devices including netbooks, tablets and gaming devices.

The versatile Fivespot supports leading infrastructure architectures including CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev.0: 800/1900 MHz; WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA: 850/1900/2100 MHz; and GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. The Fivespot, which weighs 2.82 ounces, also has VPN support.

Customers using the service in the US can choose from a variety of prepaid or monthly post paid plans. The prepaid plans are $15 for 100 MB for one day of use, $30 for 300 MB for one week, or $50 for 1 GB or $80 for 5 GB for 30 days. Monthly access is available for $39.99 for 250 MB and $59.99 for 5 GB.

Different plans are available for customers traveling abroad. A $130 monthly access plan features 5 GB usage allowance in the U.S. and Canada and a 100 MB allowance in select countries. Another $220 monthly plan provides 5 GB allowance in the US and Canada and a 200 MB allowance in select countries.
