The two modules are for Motorola's OmniStar GX2 high-density, universal optical hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network platform. The modules allow cable network operators to provision advanced services on their existing network infrastructure and make more efficient use of existing bandwidth.
Designed for targeted services delivery, the OmniStar GX2-DM870 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) narrowcast transmitter is designed to allow operators to offer video on demand (VOD) and voice over IP (VoIP) services over existing fiber. The unit provisions services at the headend, re-using bandwidth for targeted services, and can use all 40 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) wavelengths across one optical fiber. Moreover, the GX2-DM870 can transmit over connections of up to 100 km.
The OmniStar GX2-DM200 return-path transmitter is designed to allow operators to deploy a scalable, low cost residential high-speed data and VoIP network. It transmits analog return path signals from 5 MHz to 200 MHz is 40 ITU wavelengths from hub to headend.
