Another Best of Interop Networking finalist, the Mellanox SX1024 is one of the highest-density 10-gigabit Ethernet edge devices yet. Packing 60 ports in a 48x10 GbE, 12x40 GbE 1U package is both an electronic and mechanical tour de force. A follow-up to last year's Best of Interop finalist, the pure 40-gigabit SX1036, the SX1024 uses the same proprietary SwitchX silicon to make the perfect edge companion to that 40-gigabit aggregation switch. Pairing them in a 2-by-8 fat tree provides 288 non-blocking 10-GbE ports with 750-ns maximum latency while burning a total of only 1100 Watts. As an added bonus, the SX1024 can run its 40-GbE links overclocked to 56 gigabits when back-to-back connected to another SX1024 or SwitchX-based system.
